I just got offered a 3 month travel role for work when I leave Nielsen. Debating whether or not to take it.

Basically every week I would fly out to NJ for work monday-thursday, work till like 1pm thursday, travel back to chi in the afternoon, work from home friday then fly back sunday night.

Its close to NYC and Ive never been. I could stay for a weekend or 2 and see the sights in NYC on the companies dime I suppose.

Is the money good? I'm afraid to fly personally so I don't know about the back and forth flights. But it might be a fun experience. Especially if you take a trip to NYC.

Never been, but do it. Get out of your comfort zone. Who knows what will happen. Maybe you meat the right lady(I know what I typed), maybe you get an awesome job offer, maybe you get shot and killed. Just do it. Sounds like fun. No commitment work wise, just 3 months.

Ha. Well money wise im getting paid the same, but it technically translates to more because A. they will be paying for my food and lodging(and they dont skimp, I aint gonna be staying at the days inn) and im not paying for a place right now, so it would essentially be my salary without having to pay for a damn thing for 3 months.

One of my buddies that travels alot, said after the first few weeks staying at a hotel weekly, they will keep bumping you up rooms(e.g. Basic room - executive - suite) at no additional cost.

Im keeping my options open though, want to see what else is out there, or another location id rather go. If I travel i would most definitely prefer somewhere I havent been. Which excludes the entire confederacy. I've been to most states in the south either for military, family, or vacation purposes.

I wish someone would Nuke Georgia, I never want to go back there again. I think I've been to every Army base in that state and went there like 4 times to visit family.

Well I say go for it then. If they are feeding you and putting you up in a nice hotel sounds pretty good. I figure that the hotel wouldn't be near where most of the crime would be. Just be careful weird stuff seems to happen in Jersey.

Sherman tried.

Seriously I would say do it. Like you said, you've seen the entire confederacy and I'd bet cornpone country pussy has got to be boring to you by now. Get out there and spread your wings--this nation is freaking huge, not to mention the rest of the world.

I am sure you have been to DC, and I think you can easily get from Jersey to DC. I think there is a high speed train that runs down there. Knowing you are a history buff, and a buff of leaders, I would think that would interest you,.

A good buddy of mine lives there (I have yet to actually visit), and seems to love it... super close to NYC and there's plenty of shit to do there.

If there ain't nothing tying you down around here, why not give it a try... although for that much travel, definitely invest in some decent noise-cancelling headphones for the flights.

Tool lives in Jersey City? I thought he was in NYC proper.

You can also go to Redbank NJ and go to Jay and Silent Bobs Secret Stash and get some comic books and other crap.

Don't think of it as visiting NJ---to sell it to yourself you have to think, "I am visiting NYC", LOL. I say do it, but the whole traveling consultant to NJ shit can get old fast and it's pretty common to know folks who have to do the Sun-Thur/Fri Newark schlepp---there's a whole army of them. It's the weekends that would be worth it IMO. NYC, DC.

I think I may have heard Arturo talking about staying in NYC proper for something and confused it.

I hope you like to tan and do laundry and work out? We know you like to drink. You will still have your house here too., right? I'm sure you can get a friend to check on things for you while you are gone. Just be careful. We don't want you coming back all obnoxious and full of yourself.

Do it. Schnell! Schnell!

Back in '99 I was traveling to Jersey City once every other month. While Jersey City is not all that big, you are right near the heart of NYC and within driving distance of a Boston and Philly day trip (Baltimore of you are really bored.

From a professional stand point, do it too. Never hurts to have the traveling experiece in case it every comes up during an interview or other professional conversations.

Here's three reasons why it would be cool:

December 11 (Tues) - Hawks @ New York Isles

January 5 (Sat) - Hawks @ Washington

January 12 (Sat) - Hawks @ Boston

And for good measure:

March 10 (Sun) - Hawks @ Philadelphia

AND if you really think about it, you can go see the Devils play.

I would never dare touch any hooker in Jersey... who knows what they're hiding.... a shank, a gun... a sausage...
