Been dealing with a herniated disk on my left side which is causing pinched nerves in my L3 and L4 Worst thing I have ever had in my life. Just got my second steroid shot into my spine. It is helping a ton. At one point, I had to lift myself off everything. I couldnt just stand up. It was painful and annoying and even the little things were difficult to do. Im hoping this fixes where I can start to heal it and strengthen it.

I just want to be able to lay down, to make matters worse, now my feet are killing me from standing on them continuously

I here you on the pill popping, and I am not one to take pain meds unless I need them. Typically I have a pretty high pain tolerance (well except a toothache), but this has brought me to my knees. The main reason for the meds is to get some sleep, the not being able to sit or lay down is a real pita.

So is the pain in your neck and shoulder? I was a little confused by your OP. Mine was so bad my entire left arm felt asleep 24/7 and I could not grip anything in my left hand. I would pick something up and it would just fall out of my hand. Neck and shoulder hurt so bad I was lucky to get 3 hours sleep at night. Took to drinking until I just passed out because it hurt so much.

Two surgeries and fusion of C3, C4, C5, C6 has helped immensely but still get pain in the evenings. You should ask the doctor for an MRI to make sure you don't have spinal stenosis or some other degenerative back issue.

And leave the Norco alone. Not only will they stop you up to the point you have to make a trip to Walgreens for an enema bottle they are addictive as hell.

Sounds about the same with me, except it is my right side, not left, and I just woke up from my nightly 2 1/2 hors of sleep. Yes pain is in my neck and shoulder and arm, into hand. Moves around a bit. ditto on the grip.

Doc already mentioned wanting an MRI, but said insurance would give a lot of push back because it's only been 2 days of pain ( this was friday when at doc) and he needed to do the traditional x-rays first.

So the stopping up part is a thing? LOL, I found that out already, that is something new to me as well (if anything I usually have the Opposite problem), I just dropped a deuce earlier today that would have made an elephant proud.

Insist on the MRI. I don't know your age but spinal stenosis and narrowing of the spinal canal can make life miserable. And yes......Norco will plug you up like nothing you have ever seen.......truly a "personal" moment

I had a very similar issue twice. Once with each arm. Turned out to be a cervical sprain and pinched nerve. There was inflammation where nerves pass through the vertebrae that was pinching my nerve. I missed two months of work. Did physical therapy and I was on some medication for epileptics.
Insist on the MRI. Thas is why it took me so long to get better.
Stretch, ice, rest.

The "rest part" is the kicker sitting or laying down really makes it flair up. As long as I am standing, pacing around it is manageable. Not sure how to explain it, the "pain" is always there, but the intensity vary's a lot. If I try to lay/sit down, it goes up to a 9-10, but then I can stand up and get it to settle down (it takes awhile) and get it down to a three. Hot showers feel great, but all is wasted when I get out have to dry off and dress.

I hear ya. I couldn't sleep more than an hour at a time for the first month. It was horrible.
Like you, I had trouble laying down. I had to bail on 1st MRI attempt. Laying there with my head back just put too much pressure on that nerve. They sent me to doc and he gave me some Vicodin and valium. I was able to get through the second try by holding my breath periodically to let pressure off nerve.

Yea I get a pinched nerve from time to time. Tends to be in my upper back. Yours sounds a little different though. With mine, the pain always starts out pretty intense but never gets worse, always gets better with time. And yes sleeping can be difficult but I'm usually able to find a position without pain.
