Not in this thread guys.
Sorry!
Not in this thread guys.
I miss HHM like Jaime Lannister misses his right hand.
We all miss Jaime Lannister's right hand....
First of all, thank you everyone for all the prayers and support that you have been sending our way especially over the last few weeks - we are so grateful and truly feel humbled and uplifted by your care.
So, as I am sure most of you are aware, I have been having a lot of tests done to determine what has been wrong with my hip and body since Oskar was born. Last Friday, I had a bone marrow biopsy and that has led our doctors to a definitive diagnosis this week. I have Multiple Myeloma which is a blood cancer where the plasma cells in your bone marrow attack and weaken the bones as well as creating unwanted protein strains in your blood throughout your body. There are several bones that have already been affected in me: the femur, the skull, some ribs, both humerus bones, but mostly the iliac bone of my right hip which is painful and makes walking difficult. Don't worry, I have a cane! Another complication is that this disease has caused some blood clots that turned into a few small pulmonary embulisms in my lungs and I have some tiny hairline fractures in my backbone. So that is all the bad news.
The good news is that, especially now, this disease seems to be highly treatable. We have been blessed to find a great oncologist and treatment center here and Dr.Dalal has a plan for me of a couple of weeks of very targeted, painless radiation starting next week along with a trio of chemo drugs that should work on killing the cancer cells and get the bones to start rebuilding. After about three months of that, it is likely that I will get a stem cell transplant at one of the Chicago university hospitals. This disease isn't curable as of yet, but able to be managed over a long time especially with all the new medicine that is constantly being developed.
That being said, we are in a good place wherever this road leads. We know that Jesus holds our family and all families in His hands and has been daily supplying His peace and strength to see things through. We feel so blessed by the love and reconciliation of family and the rare opportunity to start to see life and death with new eyes at a (relatively) young age.
We humbly ask for your prayers again, specifically that the radiation goes well next week and that there are no complications from broken bones or the like until these things start to heal. Oh, and also sanity in dealing with three very energetic children.
Our love to each and every one of you and enjoy these beautiful spring days!
That's good news. Thanks.Update from HHM:
Done with morning chemo infusion appt, doc comes in with blood work from 2nd round of treatment, face beaming. Lambda light chains down to 1.8. Normal is under 2. He said we've normalized all of wife's numbers! She's responding super duper well.
