Your footage is great- I have had this guy in my amazon cart for a bit.
Havent bought it because I dont want to pick a turd.

You know if this one is comparable to what you have, or do I need to up my price window?

Thanks man! I appreciate it.

Can you go up to $449?

That's the one I have, the DJI Mini 2. You can get a warranty for crashes, etc for $49-$79 from the manufacturer for 1-2 years. I did because frankly I like the piece of mind. The FIMI X8 SE 2020 ($479) is another good drone I just happened to get one that had gimbal issues. Between the two I give a slight nod to the Mini 2 because DJI is basically the Apple of drones. The FIMI is rain proof, faster, has automated flight modes, it can track you, etc, etc. All are things which the Mini 2 can't do. BUT the Mini 2 is more polished and honestly just slightly more user friendly.

In the sub $300 range you can get the DJI Mini 1/SE. It's not 4k but I wouldn't get caught up worrying about that. Here is a link to the Mini SE (It's a Mini 1 guts in a Mini 2 housing basically).

This was shot on a Mini 1 (basically a Mini SE)

Here is a breakdown comparing the Mini 1, Mini 2, and Mini SE.

The mini 2 is stunning... the only thing stopping me is the lack of "follow me". I would love to get some trailing aerial shot of wakeboarding on a still morning.

As much as I would love to trust people in my crew to get a good shot....I dont.

I gotta repeat- your videos are stunning.

If tracking is a must I'd say yeah the Mini 2 is not the right choice. The one shot where it "tracks" me is actually a "quick shot" which technically it's an automated flight mode that you can trick briefly but it's not gonna do what you want.

I totally forgot but the Husban Zino Mini Pro has a ton of hype behind it.

It has obstacle avoidance, tracking modes, automated flight, a bigger sensor than the Mini 2. However, it has been delayed. Some people think it will never come out. I'd say wait 2 months and see what the reviews are for the Husban Zino Mini Pro say. I personally am going to get one if it lives up to the hype. They are $469.

Has the drone interest picked up in the last few years? I had been wanting one for several years but never pulled the trigger. Well that has changed and now I’m waiting for the Mavic Air 3 to arrive. I do a lot of camping in the mountains and near the ocean and have been itching to get some birds’ eye views of the areas I go to. The Air 3 has a ton of the features I have been wanting and now they come at a price point that I am comfortable paying.

Do you still have yours @94SupraTT ?

Yeah I still have mine. I've gotten a little better with editing. Here is a video I did in Alaska.

The Air 3 is probably the next camera drone I plan on getting also. I want the RC2 (I hate using my phone) and the dual lens and 360 obstacle avoidance are pretty awesome. They are pretty pricey though. If I'm being honest the only reason I will probably get one is because of the weight. I think my video shows that you can get good quality still out of a Mini 2. The thing is you just can't get past the fact that it gets pushed around in the wind. Far too many times I haven't been able to fly because it was getting pushed out to sea. I'm also into FPV now in addition to camera drones. It is very humbling. lol

Nice video! Alaska is awesome. Yeah, I’m getting the RC2 as well. What editing software are you using? I’ll probably start with Lightcut. I’m also hoping this will get me back into shooting more with my EOS-R as well. I’ve been slacking lately and leaving it at home and just using my iPhone.

Thanks! Alaska is so underrated IMO. I was supposed to go there in February to try to see the northern lights but that fell through. I'll probably go back Feb. 2025.

I'm using Davinci Resolve (free version). It's really not that bad. There are so many 5 minute tutorials out there to get you started. I think people are overwhelmed because it can do so much but don't realize that if you don't need all of the functionality you don't have to use it. I use it for basic video editing and color grading.

I know what you mean about using a smart phone for a camera, the image processing and quality is good enough for most stuff that I want to take on vacation. I have a Canon M50 which I thought I was going to use for photos and a little bit of video when I travel which I don't use as much as I should. Most of my lens aren't EF-M so I should have just went with a bigger camera anyway. I figure between my drone, cell phone and GoPro 11 Mini I can get most shots that I want without having a bunch of bulky equipment.

This video was edited in Davinci as well. I haven't taken a ton of video with the GoPro. It's super convenient and using Gyroflow to stabilize video is AWESOME!

This video is extremely underexposed and it was my first attempt to stabilize with Gyroflow. Gyroflow is AWESOME! Ignore the underexposed video but take note of the stabilization. I'm not a great FPV pilot but Gyroflow makes it looks like I am, lol!

@94SupraTT how difficult would it be to home-build combat drones using OTS components?

How long until I see Skeeter shooting wild hogs with a gun mounted to a drone platform?

You can do it now if you have the $$ for it. I doubt the “Skeeter” in your scenario does though. He’d probably just mount something to his truck or atv.

Video looks awesome. I’m just putting my toes in the water right now. It’ll be a while before I get into the FPV scene. My only experience with drones is, flying my friends’ older model DJI’s, and losing my first one (non-gps) the first day I had it. (Note to self, don’t fly cheaper drones in sub -10° with high winds) It blew over a barn and got caught in some winds, stopped responding to controls and disappeared into a field of snow. I searched that field for 6hrs and never found it. lol
