So 2 1/2 years ago we got a new top loading HE clothes washer. We did our research and ended up getting a highly recommended (by Consumer Reports) Samsung Model. Up until recently we loved it. Now it is on the fritz, nearly every load ends up in a unbalanced error message. Finding out it's a common problem for this model and the fix can be expensive, there have even been attempts at class action lawsuits. I feel like I was defrauded by Consumer Reports. Anyway at least customer service at Samsung has been okay so far, not the horror stories I've seen on the net. Repair appointment is next week, hopefully won't be the $6-700 dollars I'm reading on the internet to fix this 2 year old $1K clothes washer. Wish me luck. Just wanted to vent.

Edit: Just want everyone to know I did due diligence to El Cid and putting my balls on it did not help.

A lot of expensive appliances are poorly designed and have major components constructed of inferior materials. I purchased a high end kitchen aid dishwasher and was only happy with it for about a year. The wheels on the shelves were made of a cheap plastic and have almost completely dissolved. The electronics on the faceplate have had issues and I can no longer select all options. I am so pissed because it's hard to get dishwashers with food grinders anymore, due to the dumb going green farce.

I have a clothes washer and the electronics go crazy on it sometimes as well. I need to unplug it and plug it back in, it was an expensive clothes washer. I am done spending premium $$'s on the high cost and supposedly high end piece of shits these companies put out. My next clothes washer will be the old school mechanical dials. The machine washes clothes for Christ sake. You don't need an expensive electronic display panel that will be all screwed up in two years.

Start buying simple less expensive stuff.

My washer's main control board went fucktard on my about 1 month outside of the warranty period.... control board costs like half of what the fucking washer costs.

But either I buy a new washer and have to move the old one which is a pain or I replace the control board for the ridiculous cost.... I replaced the control board.

Planned obsolescence at its finest.

Make sure you don't put too much detergent in those H E s. Or drive them across the country without shipping bolts.

The oven door on my stove locks if I leave a pot or the tea kettle on the back center burner. Then it does this intermittent beeping for about 30 minutes. Also occasionally the timer alarm will decide to go off on its own without being set usually about 2 am.

Consumer Reports sucks. I buy the low priced HE washer dryer and get 4-5 years and buy a new set.

My daughter bought a Samsung washer and something happened to it during her move. She called 5 different repair places. Nobody would work on a Samsung. She ended up calling Samsung directly and since her warranty had just expired they sent a tech out who couldn't figure out what was wrong so he replaced about 6 things and it started working again

My 20 year old GE (re: Good Enough) washer and dryer still work great. Never a single issue. They even have the knobs, no digital display.

Nothing wrong with CR at all.

Im at ten years with my HE

Youtube a solution.

I had an issue a year ago with my dryer. Tore it apart, removed the board, cleaned it, resoddered it, and put it back together. Total cost less than 20. All thx to Youtube.

The shipping bolts are generally removed and sometimes taken away by delivery guys when they set up your stuff. On my last set I made sure to ask to keep them and ended up using them on a move across the country.

We had a top loading HE washer for about a year and had an issue and got a different set. We went back to the front load HE and like it better. The top load always had issues with balancing the load.

Don't jinx me. I'm on 9 years with my agitatorless washing machine(top loading HE washer). Still works like the day I bought it. 5.0cu ft, wash big stuff in it all the time.

But yeah, they don't make these things like they used to. Small balance parts made of PVC and extruder pumps with paper thin walls.

Repair estimate is $180 in parts and $120 labor, waived the diagnostic fee if they repair it. For a fucking spring tension unit.
