(1) Levine says Ramirez may be more likely to accept a trade in August, after his family has returned to the Dominican Republic (kids go back to school);

(2) Levine suggests – contrary to what everyone else has been saying – that Ramirez’s 2012 option does not become guaranteed if Ramirez is traded (we’ve got to get that figured out, because the possibility of trading him becomes immeasurably greater if that’s true);

If the option doesn't automatically vest when he is traded, then the odds of Ramirez being traded go way, way up. He probably moves into that group of Pena, Fukudome, Johnson of guys that are most likely going to be traded. If Ramirez isn't going to accept a deal til after July 31st it becomes a lot more tricky since he has to be placed through waivers, but it moves this from near impossible to unlikely.

from everything i have read and saw it the vesting option picks up if traded. If thats not true then he could be traded very easily in my mind to other teams. Part of me still wants to resign the guy though. Looking at 3B FA class this offseason its awfull. He by far is the best option.

I disagree. A-Ram has been one of the best 3B in the game since he came to the Cubs. Of course he is declining cause he getting older but look at options the Cubs would have next year at 3B. Josh Vitters who cant draw a walk to save his life, MLB pitchers would eat him alive on the corners, and this FA class for 3B:

Third basemen
Wilson Betemit (30)
Casey Blake (38) - $6MM club option with a $1.25MM buyout
Jorge Cantu (30)
Eric Chavez (34)
Craig Counsell (41)
Mark DeRosa (37)
Greg Dobbs (33)
Edwin Encarnacion (29) - $3.5MM club option with a $500K buyout
Jerry Hairston Jr. (36)
Wes Helms (36)
Omar Infante (30)
Felipe Lopez (32)
Jose Lopez (28)
Nick Punto (34)
Aramis Ramirez (34)
Miguel Tejada (38)
Omar Vizquel (45)

By far A-ram is the best avaible. He on pace to hit 20 HR + and drive in 90 + RBI. Cubs make it where he protecting Fielder i think he feels alot more comfortable then him being the guy in the lineup.

So if he's traded, do we have a Baker/ LeMahieu platoon at 3B? Because Vitters probably won't be ready come trade deadline.

That really makes any team better. NOT.....looking over it now i really think Cubs should keep A-Ram. Right now for 3B he is tied 8th in all of baseball in HR, 10th in RBI, 7th in AVG in all of baseball for 3B . This guy is still a top 10 3B in baseball and thats with a horrible start. Not going to find one better then him in the system or FA.

He's been GREAT in the past. Don't get anyone of us wrong. I just don't ever want to see a guy being paid $15 million dollars this year and can't hit with RISP.

He's really just been a bum this year.

So then the question is, who would take him and what could we get in return?

THIS is the big problem...its like soriano...dude was very good to great when he came here

but now he is seriously declining

he is becoming another designated power hitter...

in the last two years we have seen noticable declines in OPS,SLG,and OBP

now he has bounced back from last year which he had little to no consistency hitting wise...

his defense isnt really exceptional either

i wonder who is going to want ramirez...and what the heck we're going to get back for him

he will go right back in his shell if there is a race. the dude is a dog, plain and simple. he runs the bases like a bitch, he plays 3b like a bitch, and comes to the park and starts to hit when there is no pressure and the team is out of contention. no thank you, il look elsewhere.

Yea he only had some of his most productive years when the Cubs were in the race. His first and second half numbers are pretty much dead even in both 07 and 08, but that is fine if you want to recycle the same David Kaplan lines about Ramirez.

Aramis Ramirez was also a big reason why the Cubs weren't dead in the water to begin 2009 with Milton Bradley sucking and Soto being fat and hurt. Too bad he had the shoulder injury...but Soriano actually carried the team for a bit until he slumped and also got hurt. Cubs should've done better in 2009, but tons of shitty luck...

A-Ram is a good player. I don't get why people are hating on him.

2006: 157 G, .291 AVG, .352 OBP, .561 SLG, .913 OPS, 38 HR, 119 RBI
2007: 132 G, .310 AVG, .366 OBP, .549 SLG, .915 OPS, 26 HR, 101 RBI
2008: 149 G, .289 AVG, .380 OBP, .518 SLG, .898 OPS, 27 HR, 111 RBI
2009: 82 G, .317 AVG, .389 OBP, .516 SLG, .905 OPS, 15 HR, 65 RBI
2010: 124 G, .241 AVG, .294 OBP, .452 SLG, .746 OPS, 25 HR, 83 RBI

What am I missing? He seems pretty consistent in terms of production. Let's take a look at RISP those years:

2006: 167 AB, .293 AVG, .378 OBP, .611 SLG, .989 OPS, 13 HR, 84 RBI
2007: 142 AB, .338 AVG, .428 OBP, .676 SLG, 1.104 OPS, 10 HR, 78 RBI (.300 A. w/2outs
2008: 155 AB, .310 AVG, .402 OBP, .626 SLG, 1.028 OPS, 12 HR, 86 RBI (.283 A.)
2009: 87 AB, .425 AVG, .515 OBP, .563 SLG, 1.078 OPS, 2 HR, 46 RBI (.359 A w/2outs)
2010: 133 AB, .278 AVG, .336 OBP, .586 SLG, .922 OPS, 10 HR, 63 RBI (.250 A. w/2outs)
2011: 87 AB, .241 AVG, .313 OBP, .402 SLG, .715 OPS, 3 HR, 29 RBI (.140 A. w/2outs)

Seems like he was pretty good with RISP between 2006 and 2010. He has struggled this year, but overall he seems like a pretty good clutch hitter.

Let's take a look at his UZR since 2006

06: -2.1
07: 11.6
08: -3.4
09: -2.8
10: -6.5
11: 0.8 (so far)

Seems to be a below average defender, but overall, it's not terrible.

Now, here is his WAR since 06:

06: 4.2
07: 5.1
08: 4.7
09: 2.2
10: 0.3
11: 1.6

When he was in his prime, he was a damn good ballplayer. He was worth over 20 million dollars per year in 07 and 08. The thing is, he is now 33 years old, and he is obviously declining. Is he worth a top prospect? Obviously not. But I think Aramis can still provide some team with a pretty good bat, and an average-below average glove. He'll come up with the clutch hits when needed (look at his history, and you'll see he has been clutch throughout his career) and the fact that the Cubs got him for basically nothing, was a huge win as well.

I love A-Ram, and I still think he can be a great trade piece for the Cubs, and a good fit on the right team.

I think the Cubs will try to trade him, but if they don't by 8/31, I can see him being bought out either soon after, and released, or just bought out at the end of the season. I honestly don't think they want to bring him back for the $16MM or whatever he's due in 2012 on that option.
