Alright, lets have a little prediction game here...

Will Niemi be a Blackhawk this upcoming week?

Rumors are that Niemi/Zito want 4 mil.

If we can get him for half, thats a win IMO

I think you're misunderstanding what I mean. If Niemi loses arbitration, I think he will be in the neighborhood of 1-1.5mil as that is where Stan ought to be trying to set the bar at.

ahhh got ya.

An arbitrator can award a price in between the 2 parties amounts correct?

so if stan wants 1.15 and niemi wants 4, can they award like 2 mil?

I believe they can; however, the arbiter must supply evidence (comparable contracts/players) to justify the decision. This is necessary.

Therefore, the arbiter cannot say, "Geegollywillikers, the two sides made compelling arguments so I'll simply average the two asking prices to make a compromise even."

Am I making sense? I gotta run out for a bit. :D

I'm thinking Niemi will be awarded in the neighborhood of 2.5 million. The Hawks front office has been set around this amount and would be able to make the amount work. Personally... I think the offer will be 2.6.

If it goes to arbitration, I don't think the arbiter can award a term longer than one year because Niemi is 27. I'd have to double check that with the CBA.

Rumors are flying that Turco is strongly considering taking a deep discount to sign in Chicago.

Leverage maybe?
