It's so obvious how much better it would be for this rebuild if Field's was our franchise QB and we could use our significant draft capitol to address major weaknesses on this horrific team. So it's so freaking enticing to want to think Fields can have a Curt Schilling type light switch go on and become a great QB. And like soon.
Add to that the fact that no one can tell, in any way whatsoever, if a college QB will become a great NFL QB. I really wanted Stroud last year but here's the thing...if he was a bust and Young was tearing up the NFL, it's not like I would be that shocked. I'd just shrug and say "okay." So it's a roll of the dice when it comes to this and we all know that and we are so sick of doing that with this position.
Bottom line is that, in my opinion, we have to roll the dice on this position in the draft because I think it's obvious enough that Fields is not going to be the great NFL QB that you can count on leading this team week in and week out. So to me, you don't have a choice, you have to roll the dice and take the 50/50 chance of falling on your face (like we did with Justin and Mitch). Maybe it's a lot worse than 50/50.
I don't think we have a choice.
AND....like everything else with Fields and Trubisky before him and Grossman before him, if I was wrong about them and they turned into great NFL QBs, then I'd be so fucking happy to tell this board how wrong I was. So freaking happy.
Fields has a MUCH better Hx than Trubisky and Grossman, but just like it was clear they weren't going to be great QBs fairly early, I think it's also clear about Fields. It's not as clear but it's clear enough.
