As we can see, when Scott is in the game, other teams treat us differently. He is a constant enforcer, however he is a liability with the puck. Another valuable aspect that we saw last night was that while being dressed as a forward, he dropped back and played some Defense also.

So, knowing that Coach Q only uses his 4th line sparingly, would you be OK with Scott playing every game and being an everyday 4th liner/7th D-man next year?

I vote yes.

Like I said, teams play differently when he is dressed and they dont have as much of an edge and want to hurt our stars as much.

Also, Q RARELY uses his 4th line, and having a 7th D-man incase of an in-game injury would just be gravy

Maybe we can find a 4th line tough guy who is not a huge liability. Then Scott can just be the injury fill-in he is.

^With the salary cap being an issue (again) and Scott already under contract, idk how realistic that will be.

He played 59 seconds last night. That is sad. I don't care what he makes the other team do, he is a complete liability on offense. He is a serviceable 6th defenseman though.

This is precisely my point...

Q doesnt give alot of playing time to these lower line players anyway, and just his sheer appearance on the bench changes the way teams play the hawks

he got 59 seconds.

Brouwer was next with over 10 minutes. I don't think it is a good idea to plan for double shifts all season long.

Try 7th if that. Rather have Hendry than him on defense.

I have been one of the few Scott supporters all season and I voted "No."

Simply, not every day, no.

At the same time, I would also like to see Johnson return, but also would vote "No" that he plays every day.

Edit: Oops, didn't see the Johnson thread.

This "effect" only happens if there is no specialty team play during the entire game.

In other circles it's called a red herring. Scott doesn't cause double shifting any more than any other 4th liner that doesn't get power play or penalty killing minutes.

What a team is doing in a situation like this is running 3 regular lines. It isn't a big deal. The 4th line, ends up being a line of specialists, and in this case - 2 guys that can be plugged in anywhere.

Since the coach elected to not dress Scott for nearly half the season, the only real reason to get rid of Scott is that the coach that the team has chosen to go with doesn't find Scott useful. And it does seem that this has been the case. While I voted Yes, I also would not be surprised to see Scott moved.

Edited: Misread it ... voted as yes, as took it to be "ok with Scott on the team next season". None of this fantasy land shit where everyone is expected to score 50 goals and a 100 points.... too much of that bullshit around the fans of this team. Tends to get in the way of actual hockey talk.

Scott hasn't served a purpose this season until this series and the fragile-minded Canucks. Yes, he gets in their heads and beats them, but the Hawks might not really need that against another team, unless they somehow meet Nashville later on.

He'll be back next year, only because he's on a 2 year deal, but his playing time will be at a minimum and will only be against squads like Vancouver or St. Louis.

He does and he did...but not enough, I'll agree. It took a while, but as mentioned before, he's got to stop being nice about asking guys to go a round. We did see more of that once he got the picture that no one wanted a piece of him.

Ultimately, a less polite John Scott would serve the team better.

Why don't they work with Scott, and use him as a big body in front of the net?

A great idea, until you realize his poor skating ability and poor hand-eye coordination. It's not even there to work with. It's more than body that makes a great screener. One of the best, Holmstrom, is just 6 feet.

I think that they thought they would see how this worked earlier in the season, then decided pretty much along the lines of what Iago posted. He doesn't even have the basic tools to do that effectively at the NHL level.

It doesn't take size to stand there, just guts. Rick Vaive was a good guy to go out there and get thrown around and then get back in there -and I think he was all of 5 11 or so -and about your average build for that size. I think his nickname was something like squid or something -- as he was getting thrown around all of the time. Which if nothing less, ended up drawing a lot of penalties.

His first season (and only full season) with the Hawks I think he scored something like 43 goals - and had been a regular 50 goal scorer before that -so it wasn't just some pud that was out there, that was a guy who could really play. He also wasn't a big physical in your face, bruiser like Al Secord was - still the deal is, there was an average sized guy that got the job done.

But, I do have to emphasize, when one chooses to do this at pretty much any level, even including bs rec leagues you will be taking a lot of cross checks to the back.
