That's three straight really good outings for Maholm. I'm thinking the odds of being able to flip him for something useful is going up. The Cubs are going to be mighty bad once Garza, Dempster and Maholm are traded.

How old is Maholm?

I want to say 30 or 31, but I don't know without looking it up. He is a veteran lefty that can eat some innings and is on a very team friendly deal for this year with an equally friendly team option. That ought to have some value with his previous track record and current run. Clearly he has the least value of Garza and Dempster.

He is nearly two months younger than me. So 30 it is.

Sori with 2 homeruns today to bring his season total 17 homeruns. You really mean that none of the teams that are desperate for right handed power couldn't use that?

the guy is a trot away from going to the DL. teams know that his knees are gone and they dont want to waste giving up anything when there are better more dependable bats that will be available closer to the deadline.

teams are looking for consistent bats. not the guys that go on binges than disappear. you can eliminate all NL teams since no one will play him in the field, the yankees are getting gardner back and jones has been a fine fill in recently. the tigers will look for a pitcher and a 2bmn before they go for a dh and there is chance vmart comes back this year. indians have hafner now. there really isnt a market for him.

I don't get why consistent at bats from a subpar offensive player is better than rolling the dice on a guy that is producing but has an injury risk, but that seems to be the way the market is playing I agree. I just don't get why known crappy at bats from Carlos Lee is worth something and riding Sori's knees for these productive at bats isn't.

It's a shame he's not a few years younger. He'd be a good back of the rotation guy for the Cubs over the next few years.

Carlos Lee was at the end of his deal but whoever has Soriano still has two more years of him to deal with, whether they actually have to pay most of the salary or not. That's probably the ish.

I see I missed a great slugfest :D Darn you, softball!

I would guess that the Cubs would have been willing to pay all the salary except prorated minimum if they got prospects like the Stros got back (not great mind you, but guys with legitimate upside). Maybe I am wrong and the Cubs are trying to ge the most salary relief they can and teams are balking (rightfully so) at paying 6 or more million over the next several seasons plus giving up legitimate prospects. I just don't get why teams wouldn't be willing to roll the dice when there are so many teams desperate for right handed thunder if the Cubs were going to eat all the salary and get two (3 star Goldstein rankings or B- Sickels rankings) prospects.

According to Kaplan, in 53 games since switching to a lighter bat Soriano's stat line looks like this .296/.369 with 17 HRs and 37 RBI.
