"In his first at-bat tonight, Starlin Castro flied out to center field. He's 2-for-21 in August, continuing the slide that started about the time that Rudy Jaramillo was fired as hitting coach. Does Castro miss Jaramillo? It's a good question. He was batting .308 through June 10, which was Jaramillo's last day on the job, and has batted .230 since then, sending his average falling to .274. He had some bad stretches in 2010 and '11 but never such an extended slump as this one. The Cubs have said they'll decide the fate of interim hitting coach James Rowson after the season, and Castro's troubles won't help Rowson. Rumors persist that Theo Epstein/Jed Hoyer will import Dave Magadan, the Red Sox's hitting coach. We'll see."
