I'm a sci-fi geek, but I find everything on Syfy cheesy and disappointing.
Syfy tends to produce shows that are never 100% serious.... and sometimes its hard to tell if they are providing comic relief in some shows or if they are being funny by accident.
Helix is an interesting show.... interesting concept.... but some of the actors..... some of the scenes last season I was like "not sure if srs rite nao?"
I feel like in the last few years Syfy either has a good concept and has bad writing/acting that kinda kills their show or they have an ok concept and good acting/writing and because of the ratings game they cancel it.... WH13 seems to be of the former and Alphas of the latter IMO.... I thought the acting in Alphas was solid.... the characters were entertaining..... but the concept didn't have too far to grow... I liked it, but I can see where people would be like "Eh people with super powers.... been there, done that".
I think the Battlestar Galactica series they did following that mini-series was their best in a while and they are looking at Ascension to fill that void that was created when the BSG series finished up.
IMO Syfy is lucky that major networks tend to kill they Sci-fi programming or not bother with it.... cause Syfy seems to squander a ton of their shows whether by going with bad concepts to begin with or good concepts and killing them with bad casting/writing. If Syfy had a legit competitor in their TV market they might get their ass kicked lol.
