June of last year, i was in a fender bender at mariano's. My fault. Filed a claim. First claim I filed in 12 years.

December of last year, my wife got hit twice. Both times the other parties' fault. Filed claims. The second offender's insurance company isn't legit and our company is pursuing them in court for reimbursement while disowning us (read on...)

January of this year, our rental car which we were renting through our company while our own car was being repaired got hit while parked. Since we couldn't prove it wasn't our fault, we were at fault. I asked whether this would put my policy in jeopardy at the time. 'No.'

4 months later, nonrenewal notice from progressive because we filed 4 claims in 36 months. I get that it's business and we hit the quota of impersonal underwriting algorithms, but **** them. No consideration of mitigating circumstances. I even had 'emerald status.'

Now, every time I see a Progressive commercial now, I drink, although I would have anyway. We have migrated to State Farm with comparable affinity discounts for homeowner's insurance, and a comparable rate.

In short, 'customer loyalty benefits' is a fraud and **** Progressive. Flo is also fugly and probably bipolar.

What are YOUR auto insurance horror stories??*

* i expect there are some car insurance experts on here who will tell me we shouldn't have been hit 3 times and/or filed claims about them, and to that I say, put yourself in the shoes of a non-expert with emerald status who asks 'will filing this claim affect my policy?' And is told 'no' more than once

Progressive sucks dick. I have had a pretty good experience with Geico; that includes one total loss claim.

Like I said, state farm hooked us up for about the same price. Was just another reminder of the numbers game, and **** loyalty programs with their 'sucker' points. Lucky we weren't stupid enough to pay in extra for it but they liked to remind us we could

In 2006, I was at a stoplight and was front-ended by a speeding car in the rain that went out of control(all in my 2 month old car). My car was pushed back into the car behind me, and I walked away just fine, but the car was completely done.

I had Progressive, and they tried everything not to total loss that car, even though the whole front clip was smashed in and the airbag deployed. I used to fix salvageable cars from accidents, and there was no way that anyone could repair this thing for less than the total value of the car, unless every single part was the cheapest possible aftermarket part. Even though it was the fault of the other driver, I had that clause where I could total loss my own car under my own policy in any circumstances where the car would require a salvage title per IL law(2/3rds value worth of damage, or something like that.) I paid for that added coverage(heck, I think THEIR policy requires it if the car is still bank owned, or that was the policy at the time).

It took 2 months of the most idiotic phone tag ever to get the car totaled. Believe me, I was completely respectful, did not raise my voice, name-call, or make any threats. And that is not what TRULY pissed me off. Because of accident forgiveness and how the fault is partially ignored by insurance(because they mainly care if you were in an accident, despite having a perfect lifetime driving record), it was cheaper for me to hold onto that shitty policy with my next car for a few years before finally being able to switch. And if you wanted to guess, yep, their accident forgiveness policy didn't actually forgive anything, I still paid more to insure my next car, despite it being rated as a cheaper to insure car across the board. What horseshit, they knew the details, knew that I was sitting at a stoplight, saw the police report, 0% fault on everything, and the nerve.

That would have never happened with statefarm.

State Farm IMO is the premier insurance company in America..I had them for over 25 years in Chicago...My problems came when I moved to NC and got them again.. My homeowners insurance doubled in 5 years..I questioned why and was told because of all the hurricanes on the coast..I never even filed a claim..Also, the agent down here never returned calls etc...When I finally switched to Farm Bureau of NC, I was paying $2800.00 for homeowners insurance with State farm..It dropped to $1100.00 with the new company...But now they are going up too. I may have to find yet another company. Although my auto insurance is pretty cheap

Had State Farm and Farmers for over ten years at different points. Both were great to start, but raised rates whenever they wanted for no real reason except that a butterfly flew in California. Basically doubled our rates gradually. That was the reason we switched. They say statistically folks are too lazy to switch.

Now with All State with Accident forgiveness Gold. Contemplating Platinum because you can't be dropped. At least that is what they say.

Damnit Ole, I am with Progressive for Auto and Home and now I feel like I need to look in to something different.

Flo gonna gank me if I have any accidents.

Does insurance feel like a huge financial troll job to anyone else? Pay us money to insure things you are legally required to insure and the amount of money you pay us is based on algorithms we write and if at anytime you have an incident where you need to use your insurance policy regardless of circumstances we will charge you more and we will try to do our best to not cover the obligations set out in the policy you have with us by trying to force blame on some other entity if we possibly can.

Car insurance if you have an accident they charge you more and if you are at fault they may try to play games to not pay the person you hit which opens you up to a lawsuit.... I've heard examples of this.

Home Insurance if you have to file a claim for damage to your home they will try their hardest to not pay you or shift blame to some other entity so they can make the other entity pay and leave you waiting for them to sort it all out.

Health Insurance.... this one at least they don't charge you more each time you have a medical claim but I have United Health Insurance and they have automatic letters they send you if a claim is filed for you where you have any kind of injury like a broken bone, sprained ankle, etc. I had done something and aggravated a tendon in my ankle so I went to an Urgent Care clinic after a couple weeks and they made sure nothing was broken and gave me some stuff called Biofreeze which worked wonders till the tendon healed up. A week later I am getting a letter saying they (UHC) thinks my injury may be due to an accident that someone else could be blamed for and they want me to fill out a form to detail my injury so they can go after the party at fault (assuming there was one, which there was not). A guy I worked with had his wife break her leg ice skating and they sent him letters for months saying the same thing.

I understand the need for insurance but I think its bullshit that because you require it in so many cases they can provide the worst possible service in a way that purely benefits them and their bottom line and they can all get away with it because they know you have no option but to deal with them or an org just like them.

Ares they were actually great until they dropped me.

As far as insurance bullshit, how's this? We filed a claim for a burst water heater. When we later switched companies, we found out the company filed our one claim FOUR times
