Great signing. I know the Pace haters will probably have something negative to say but I think Pace is doing a great job.
Im on the fence with Pace. Pace has made some moves or lack of moves I don't care for, like the Fox hire, Fox still being the coach after 2016, & the Kevin White pick. I also believe Cutler should have been cut when Pace took the job. However, I do still believe that Pace hasn't been entirely horrible & has drafted a group of decent players that can significantly help the team contend if Pace effectively addresses core offensive positions like QB, OT, TE early in this draft, which needs to be offense heavy for a change. I believe its going to come down to whether or not he drafts a QB this draft with one of his first 3 picks, that is good enough to lead the Bears to the postseason. That is going to take a couple of years to unfold.
I think Pace is doing fine so far this FA, & it's mostly because of his CB signings including this signing with Webb. With all the nickel being played CBs are even more important than they already were before the increase of nickel packages.
To me, when it comes to getting that handful of players that function as the motor of a 3-4 that make the scheme function effectively, be it old school fairbanks or modern amoeba(hybrid), when it comes to positional importance in a 3-4, OLB is priority #1, & CB is priority #1a in any 3-4 I've seen. Barring defensive injuries, I believe that Paces DB signings will help make this defense a top 10, if not a top 5 defensive unit.
I can understand why some believe Pace should be fired today, but I can also see why others want to "hold the phone" with firing him. This draft will determine his fate. I do believe that if he doesn't effectively address both of the QB & OT positions, he will find himself seeking other employment soon.
