There was a yuuuge thread earlier in the season after the Bears switched to bermuda grass prior to the season starting. I'll try to find it and post a link for you. It was one of those insanely long threads but didn't involved the fun kind of grass aka weed.

The amount of time I spent trying to explain to people that YES …. they really can re-sod the fucking stadium and still play a game in time. ?‍♂️?‍♂️?‍♂️

I keep seeing these jokes about Bermuda grass so I’m going to assume I missed a thread about it. What did I miss??
Thread was about whether it would hold up as well as bluegrass in cold weather. We're already on the upside with this new turf. It could turn to shit the next 3 games and still be overall better this year than the crap they played on over the last couple decades.

On another issue, I don't think grass prevents injury over the best artificial surfaces. What you may gain in cushioning and give is offset but inherent variability and deterioration of a natural surface.

It was actually multiple threads but a few guys were hell bent on arguing the Bears made a huge mistake switching to Bermuda grass.

Shout out to @94SupraTT
The rye has already grown in as I said it would. The bermuda is dead at this point. Your reading comprehension leaves a lot to be desired.

Tahoma 31 is great grass. Planting it in the north, in the fall, a week before a game is not great. I doubt it will be a disaster. It is just not miracle grass. If they re-sod in November (or if the rye overtakes it) it probably won't be any worse than years prior.

It's rye at this point.

Fans might notice it begin to turn brown as it gets colder, but they’ll add rye to help keep it green.

No one said it would last forever. The point was it was much ado about nothing.

I don't understand this decision. Bermuda makes up 95% of lawns down here in the south. It makes no sense in the north. It's going dormant NOW. I have Tif419 and Arden 15 in my yard. What's going on at Soldier is Tahoma 31. It's arguably the "best" Bermuda. But..... It's still Bermuda. It doesn't like shade, it goes dormant in the cold, it grows slower than tifway 419. It's more dense which is good for turf (less wear) but it's not on ideal conditions at all in the north in the winter. The only positive is it's more dense than most Bermuda.

You said it made no sense but the reality is it did. Later on you softened your stance but the point all along was that it would be fine which it was. It was always going to be the case that they would eventually have to re-sod and/or replace the Bermuda as we got deeper into the season. The point was to use Bermuda for as long as you could which they did.

You still don't get it. I never softened my stance. At the end of the day the bermuda was not going to last the full season. They would have to re-sod or seed in rye. My message was always that the bermuda would not last the season and they would have to do something else as the season progressed. That's exactly what happened.

Dude, I can't help it if you don't understand how multiple things can be true and you can still be wrong with all of those things being true.

I stated it makes no sense to use bermuda because it was out of season. I also said...

"tl;dr - Tahoma is going to die just like all other bermudagrass in the winter. It's still bermuda. Fancy bermuda, but still bermuda."

I followed that up with what people in the south do. The have bermuda and then plant winter rye to keep a green lawn in the winter. The Bears did exactly what I thought they would. They could have just re-sodded and got literally the same results. At the end of the day it didn't "last longer" the rye was already growing from day 1. They literally did exactly what I knew they would do......

Lol, absolutely no one claimed Bermuda grass would last the whole year and everyone knew it would have to be re-sodded or rye added. You were whining about them using Bermuda as if other grasses would last the whole season.
