So the lady brought up the idea of sitting on a beach for like, 5 days. She also mentioned Cancun. I gotta say, my intrest was piqued.

Should I try to go to Cancun? I have found some trips under 800 bucks. If I want to do all inclusive, it bumps it up to 1200.

I would more then likely just be sitting on the beach the whole time. I would maybe do a deep sea fishing charter thing if it was available, maybe a snorkel, other then that, nothing.

Look, whatever the fuckery that has taken over this thread, this is what I have to say: go to Cancun. If TCD was like, do you want to sit here in our derelict apartment in the rainy, cold winter, or sit on a sandy beach and swim and read books and drink tequila for 5 days, I would chose the damn beach. The beach is my favourite place in the world. I want to live on a beach. Beaches are made of magic and awesome. People are barely clothed!!! There are interesting animals swimming around.

GO TO CANCUN!

Uptown baby!
Cancun is a tourist cesspool along with Cozumel. My friends and I only flew in/out of there and returned one day to take off from there for snorkeling and then stayed in another town but what little I had to be there was far too appalingly over-touristed for my tastes . BUT I suppose if you're doing one of those all-incclusive thingies and you're only gonna stay on your hotel's beach then WTH why not! A little 5-DAY mid-winter vacay of boozin' and general hedonism sounds pretty damn SWEETASS right now. It's not the rainy season right now on the Carribean coast of Mexico either so go for it jako!

Be careful though that if you do a fishing or snorkeling expedition to try and get a good outfit reccommendation----some of the half-assing ones will take groups to some fucking DEAD parts of Mexico's reef and there are abundant dead parts because of decades of human interaction destruction.

I guess we are opposites. If I grew up in a place that was cold and wet most of the time, I might yearn for the beach. Since I grew up in a place where I was never farther than 2 hours from the beach, I fucking can't stand the beach. I used to go when I was a teenager, and a little in my early 20's. After college, going to the beach and baking my skin was simply quite pointless. I live 12 miles from the Atlantic Ocean and I have been to the beach a total of 2 times in the past 6 years or so. (Actually down on the beach, in the sand or water).

Jax, the truth of the matter is that I am just a huge wimp and can't handle the cold. Yes. I'm really Canadian even though I hate the cold. I associate beaches with being warm. I got my fill of cold, snowy mountain air as a child. Whether for peaceful contemplation or partying, beaches are my thing. We just had opposite situations in our upbringing. It all makes sense.

Hawaii, nothing beats it, I'm lucky enough to be heading back there this year from March 12th-19th. Can't fucking wait to get out of this cold for a week and into paradise.

All of my vacations have been doing stuff. Im going to Canada and fishing with Pops, so there's all the driving and so on, sitting on a beach and literally doing nothing sounds like fun.

I would prefer going down the coast a little to what they call the Mayan Riviera. The water was pristine when last I went. I would go back in a heart beat but it is a very long day of flying from these parts. I would also choose the all inclusive option, the food is not over the top but just as good as what you might eat regularly at home. Look in TripAdvisor.com for a good resort, you can get updates there regarding nasty things like construction or pool closures a resort might have. My wife and I also learned that we much more enjoy the smaller resorts. You end up being much closer to the beach, food and bars. In the big resorts you might have to haul your ass a 1/4 mile for a beer or slice of pizza.

When I was there my son and I took a catamaran out into the sea a ways, maybe a mile, and jumped in with the snorkel gear on. We jumped into a school a barracuda that easy had 500-1000 fish, what a rush! Mom, was less excited.

I had friends who went to Daytona for Spring break in the early 90's and got snowed there in by a freak blizzard. I laughed my ass off. Anyhow, as far as Jacko's concerns I really don't have anything to add other than everything I've heard about Cancun in particular back's up Book's description.

Tripadvisor has been a wealth of info. I know it would probably be impossible, but I would enjoy a beach that is sparse with the people. Small resort you say? Id be down for that. I think all inclusive would be cheaper/a better way to go.

And that sounds awesome.

For Mexico I was always fond of Puerto Penasco (Rocky Point). It was off the beaten path of typical tourist meccas and fairly close to the US border. You could actually fly into Tuscon and drive from the US. My only hesitation now would be the drug violence although I think that could be an issue just aboot anywhere.

I'd also consider Panama. My favorite beach/oceanside resorts are Bananas on Isla Grande (Atlantic side, secluded, quiet, remote, relaxing, although it doesn't really have much of a sandy beach) or Royal Decameron on the Pacific side which is more of your all inclusive resort type thing with lots of beach, tons amenities ect.... There are tons of others.

Luckily for me my roommates cousin lives in Honolulu so all we have to pay for is airfare. Found a roundtrip ticket out of Winnipeg for 600 bucks and pounced on that real fast. Not too often you get to go to a place like that for under a thousand dollars. Anyone who ever has a chance, take it the place truely is paradise and if you've never been to Pearl Harbor, that's a sight to be seen

I was in Hawaii last fall, it was glorious. Did not appreciate Waikiki that much but we found the North Shore to be just our speed.

Couldn't agree more about North Shore, don't know if you did any snorkeling. We went at Hanauma Bay on the southeast corner of the island and it's probably the most gorgous thing I've ever seen.

Hawaii is great, but yes it is expensive to get there unless you are willing to make multiple stops and odd hours. But far worth the trip.

Mexico is cheap right now because the significant drop in tourism....which based on what we hear is going on in the country is no suprise.

Another consideration is South West Florida. Specifically the Ft. Myers area. The beaches are not too bad there, and not so touristy as the east coast. There is Sanibel and Captivia islands that are worth a decent visit beyond the beaches they have. Ding Darling is a great bird santcuary. And you can still do some of the outdoors stuff as well including off shore fishing, etc.

Another good spot in Florida is Panama City Beach.

But when it comes to Mexico, the Gulf tip has been my favorite of places. You get the beachy touristy things and can get out to see some of the Mayan ruins.
