Jets fans actually want Foles. They are definitely going to add a veteran before training camp. I just hope it's Foles instead of a guy like Minshew, who isn't really a veteran but has experience and can also probably be had for little draft capital and a MUCH cheaper contract.
I heard that as well. Even the NY sportswriters are calling for it. But....it's the fucking Jets, so who knows?

What if he tanks it again?

They had a deal with Philly that he torpedoed.

Maybe he is done actually playing football and just wants to cash his checks and be a coach with a helmet. I think the Bears announcing him as the #3 was way of trying to nudge him towards the door.
You just described what he'd be doing in NY. He doesn't have a NTC.

He was not at OTAs again today. That is a long personal issue. I wonder if he is doing some thinking about being the #3.

Don't they only have like $40 million in cap next year? Undoubtedly some of that will go to defense and extensions
That is assuming a stagnate cap. They set a cap for the cap at just over 200M, which would be nearly a 20M jump. I think they will reach that number.

My take

They haven't really talked about him in months as part of the qb room/group

Leads me to believe they talked to him about a trade and are trying to work one out...esp post June 1st

The jets are the most logical destination....and apparently their backups looked awful in camp

My guess is both are holding out for preferred terms

Think the eventuality is the trade looks something like

Fools +7th
For 6th

And I think the jets have multiple 6ths and 7ths next year

Obviously, there is a ton of work to do on offense next year and not a ton of resources.

The question really becomes

1. Can we get some young cheap guys to step up on offense? There aren't that many.
2. Can we move money from D to O? Which will be tough because there are some albatross contracts on the books.

We should try to get J.Crowder from the Jets. We'd obviously have to add something intriguing to get them to take Foles and give us Crowder who i think is owed a little over $10 mil for this year and they just drafted my guy E.Moore who is a slot WR so not sure they'd wanna pay Crowder when they're going through a rebuild.

I don't wanna pay Crowder either. 5M cap hit difference between Crowder and Foles in 2021. Big difference would come in 2022, but IDK if Crowder adds enough to justify that difference. I'd rather stick with Miller in a contract year in the slot.

Crowder's one of the best slots in the NFL and there's no questioning his hands and effort in games like we've done with Miller every year. He'd be a great addition but not gonna happen anyway.

Crowder is probably too expensive to add this offseason unless we got a quick extension done with him.

But next offseason he would be a really nice add as a #3 WR. He is super productive and reliable in the slot and would be a nice safety blanket for Fields.

Thing that stands out to me...... look how much money is going to backups. Dalton- 5, Foles 6.6, Cohen 3.3, Graham 10. Throw in the dead space for the guys not here and the Bears are not only spending the 7th lowest on offense in the league, but 33 of the 82Mil is being paid to guys who are going to make a difference in taking this team from the 29th ranked offense to where they need to be. Effectively, they are spending 49M on offense. While it's good that they are building the offense thru the draft, this looks really bad when you have neither the cap space to balance out the spending nor the draft picks to go full youth movement on the offensive side.

To balance the spending in 2022, it looks like they'd need to spend all 50M in cap space on offense, specifically WR, OG and OT because I don't want any more 5-10Mil backups. But then you'd have a still expensive defense that hasn't replaced Hicks, Quinn, and still Fuller.
being able to draft Fields literally saved FO ass cause otherwise it's a trainwreck for how to spend your money. SOOOO much wasted cap space. Graham being 2nd highest on the offense is an absolute joke. just gotta keep Fields upright this season, let him learn as much as possible. hope guys want to come play here next year because he had a special rookie year and they see the potential there.
