Looking at the guys projected "so far" as top 10 picks that may be there at 8.... I say take Nelson. Closest thing to a "sure thing" in this draft and will greatly help both the pass and run game. WR or Edge in round 2. Depends on how free agency goes.

Yep all in on Nelson in first too. In rd 2 I agree go with WR but I will say I really like Okoronkwo edge from OU. May be worth taking if he’s there in the 2nd, can really get after the QB.

I’m going to get blasted but I personally think that Pace has to hit on this first round pick as the others have been projects in the making at best. I’d draft Nelson as I believe he will be a perennial pro bowler and the best guard I’ve seen in a long time. I think it’s the safest pick and I think a great offensive line will help Trubisky quicker than talented wr’s will! That’s not to say we don’t need them because we obviously do. There are so many unknowns right now with our wr core.

A second part to this strategy is that it will create depth with Kush as a backup as well as long or sitton and maybe even white hair at center. Grasu at center is an abomination, he needs help or gets absolutely steam rolled into the qb’s face. Whitehair has to shore up his snapping and will only get better at it but he’s an awesome run and pass blocker.

Kyle Long really needs to consider moving back to right tackle for both the sake of the team and his own personal safety! He’s been so banged up the past three years that he won’t last 2 more seasons staying inside with his playing style. He was pretty damn good at tackle two years ago when he had a week to learn the position. If HE wanted to play tackle, Left or Right, he could have been great at it and would be a lot healthier than he is now. I give him props for being tough and playing through tons of injuries but he hasn’t been healthy in two years and still has played at a pro bowl level. An entire offseason at right tackle would be enough to get him ready and be an immediate huge upgrade over Massie who played better towards the end of the season but still is a liability in pass protection.

None of this matters one bit if we get a poor coaching staff! Players are virtually useless in today’s NFL with poor coaching. Look at what fangio has done with this defense in a short period of time with practically a complete change of roster!?!?!

Offense, unless the BPA is a pass rusher. The defense when healthy was one of the top units in the NFL. Trubisky needs help in the form of either a weapon or protection.

We can get receivers in free agency and focus on that next year.

If we go WR in 1 we need to trade back.

I think there will be opportunities. Otherwise I’m on the Nelson/Ferrel train.

Looks like there is a limited number of top receivers in free agency, and other teams with needs at the position have much more cap space. Fixing the worst WR group in the NFL through FA is highly questionable.

Drafting #8 is a little high in the draft for a WR in my opinion... 1st round WRs period I would avoid. But I do see some quality WRs I like which should be available for the bears 2nd pick. Also the only OL you should draft that high had better play LT... and since LT is probably the most stable spot on the line it doesn't make sense to draft OL that high either. We're not going QB or RB... so that leaves defense.

I look at the teams picking ahead of the Bears... 3-4 QBs should be selected with works in the Bears favor. As of now ... the only player I'm pretty sure will be out of the Bears range is Chubbs. Almost anyone else they should be looking at should be available to them. The most logical choices in terms of BPA and position of need... look to be LBs and DBs. A. Key, M. Fitzpatrick and D.James are players who look to be the best available as of now.

I would be fine with offense in the early rounds and defense in the late. Thats what bears did in 05 draft. But honestly i just want play makers no matter where they are drafted.

Yep, we either get pass protection or pass catching. If we can get an NFL ready WR star that would make up for the good FAs getting re-signed.
