Buffalo Grove and Notre Dame safety Tom Zbikowski is expected to sign with the Bears, according to league sources.

The deal could be finalized later today.

Born in Park Ridge and raised Arlington Heights, Zbikowski was a two-time All-American at Notre Dame in 2005 and 2006, distinguishing himself as a safety and returner.

A third-round pick of the Baltimore Ravens, he started 14 games in four seasons. Last season, he started 11 games for the Indianapolis Colts, finishing with 38 tackles, one sack, five passes defended and one interception. He also returned six kickoffs for 123 yards.

Zbikowski has also generated headlines as a professional boxer. He's got a 4-0 record with his last fight in April 2011.

At Buffalo Grove High School, he was a dual-threat quarterback, setting several school records.
Chris Conte and Major Wright are the Bears' starting safeties, but Zbikowski, 27, provides a veteran with starting experience and the versatility to help on special teams.

A simple counter balance signing. Sign a shithead one day, sign a Saint the next. The locker Dynamic is now complete.

This from Rotoworld:

Tom Zbikowski - DB - Free Agent

The Chicago Sun-Times reports the Bears are expected to sign free agent S Tom Zbikowski.
Zbikowski was released by the Colts last week after Indianapolis inked LaRon Landry as his replacement. Zbikowski is from the Chicago area, and he has 25 career starts under his belt. He recorded 38 tackles, five pass breakups, and an interception last season. Zbikowski also brings value as a special teams player.

Does anyone know if there would be any cap relief for releasing Steltz?

Knowing the Bears history of injuries at safety, nice depth signing.

You need depth in the secondary always... Maybe you cut Steltz or flexibility to try Harden at nickle like some pondered about.

No way he make the team dude is awful. Worst starter in the NFL last year and by a wide margin IMO.

Steltz is better and I would image Hardin is better also
