You can't get younger everywhere, and there is value in adding select veteran leadership so long as they can still play and the contract doesn't have severe cap implications (like the Allen contract).

Getting younger doesn't happen in 1 offseason, especially when you went into it with all the age this roster had coupled with 6 draft picks. I agree, some of these moves might be head scratchers, but maybe they can be viewed as bridges to a younger draft pick next season. Safety, is definitely a need to find a player, this might be a sign they (Pace/Fox/Fangio) don't like the younger FA's and potential in the draft.

if they are valuing and spending money on the front seven, a discounted secondary player with some value is OK....I would love for them to get younger everywhere but we don't enough money to improve and get younger everywhere.

not really sure about rolle. old and bad. he's durable, i'll give him that. guess it speaks to how bad the safety market is.

Bethea had a good year as an older safety under Fangio last year. Maybe Fangio can get 2 good years out of Rolle while bringing along a younger player like Vereen.

Danger here is that there's not many decent safeties available in FA or the draft so a guy like this could get overpaid.
