It really has nothing to do with gving someone else an opportunity. It has to do with the Bears sucking so bad that the NFL is granting them a free mid rd draft pick if they just release a player that is not getting any snaps right now and will not be on the team next year. Pace won't do it though.

yes I understood the comp pick part of releasing him. Just wanted to expand on the point.

will Pace release him? That will be another telling sign on what type of GM he is.

Short term, better to cut him. Long term... will cutting him affect future chances to sign other free agents? Thoughts?

You cut him on the 11th hour of when you need that to count towards the compensatory pick formula.

I know he's not giving you much, but there's dead cap space when you cut a player. I know you guys want that 4th rounder now, but if any of the other teams where they signed:

So, if Bellamy, Kush or Callahan get cut then cutting Davis doesn't really do anything other than solidify dead cap space.

I've gotten into a larger debate about those 3 getting cut, but each team has their own 'cut for comp pick' discussion happening.

Anyway, it's not that simple. For example, I think the Broncos get back a 4th if they cut Callahan. This is because they lost Bradley Roby, who Houston can get a 7th for if they cut.

Well that sucks. I could easily see Bellamy or Callahan being cut.

Not if getting cut ends up to a better chance of getting a ring. Pace would be more wirried that he will perform elsewhere and make Nagy look even worse for not playing him here. Hell, Nagy would not be using Jordan Howard anyway.

We'll see. I'm not sure how injuries factor in. If a guy is injured or IR'ed can they really be cut?

For my Eagles if they cut Andrew Sendejo they get a 4th for the Giants signing Golden Tate.

Currently he plays about 25% of the snaps and keeps fucking up (late hit on Mitch this past game that drew a flag) .

I actually think the Compensatory program is kind of hurting those lower tier FAs. Teams are giving them a paycheck, but they are also not really giving them much of a chance to play, because come week 10 they don't want to depend on them.

I also think the program is missing the mark. The purpose was to compensate teams for losing higher end players. I believe the logic was to help out those lower tier teams from losing top end talent and getting nothing in return. It's turned into a 'rich getting richer' type system where some of the better managed teams are exploiting this. For example the Patriots are getting 5 picks (2nd, 2nd, 6th, 6th and 6th) and the Seahawks also have 5 picks (3rd, 4th, 6th, 7th & 7th).

Maybe that's the real reason for the program? So teams that make it far in the playoffs can load up after they lose a bunch of their FAs.

If a team offered us a 4th round pick for Davis we would be crazy not to take it, so how is this any different?

Cut him and get a draft pick. That is a no-brainer. But aside from that, you may as well give other guys on the PS a chance to see what they can do, and if they could pan out in the future. I'd rather see what Whyte or Nall can do in regular season games than watching Davis on the bench.

I would hope Nall could get a shot, He is the kind of guy that can sub with Montgomery, and get the job done.

Quoting my own post here (which I love to do).

Eagles waived Sendejo today. He was pretty bad and our secondary is getting healthy, so I'm guessing he was more of a bridge.

Kush isn't on Cleveland's injury report and played zero offensive snaps in their most recent game after being a starter in weeks 1-5.

He's probably gone, along with the potential comp pick.
