Then in 2021 you are left with some vet and needing to draft someone and develop.

At least this way we have someone for 2021.

Windy with holes they need to fill and being that close to the playoffs they are not going to invest potentially in paying 3 quarterbacks and using their top draft choices to ride the pine.

You are living in a fantasy world. They can’t afford to do it. Pace and Nagy could be gone next year if they don’t make the playoffs. They are going to use the second rounders on immediate contributors to help the team.

If they draft a quarterback that high they will trade Trubisky and use the vet QB to compete with the new QB.

If the draft a QB with intent on him riding the pine it will be a late dev guy.

Not really an issue of cost. Trubs counts 9.2 million against the cap which is still well below that of normal starting QB. Rookie is going to cost say 3 million first year so they can afford a vet in the 7-10 million range still still be on the low end of what a starting QB is paid combined.

Not saying they will do it but only way cost would matter is if they wanted a vet QB that is asking for legit starters money. I think instead, they will view the combined contracts of Trubs and vet QB as the start so to speak with a budget then of 20 million total to spend.

Nagy and Pace are not in any risk of being gone unless they go 3-13.

They will be thinking beyond 2020.

Because they need a QB for 2021 and forcing a rookie to start in a complex offense sounds like a good way to blow another QB pick.

We will have to disagree. I know it is popular with some of the amateur bluecheck marks on Twitter to speculate for a high round quarterback but if you are spending one or both of your round twos on a QB you are forgoing on quite a bit of talent that could help you win the division right now.

If they draft a QB with the second round picks they are moving on from Trubisky immediately.

If they are targeting a future starter they are most likely going to burn both second rounders to move up. You are then paying two first round QBs and a vet backup who will most likely cost more than Chase Daniel.

That hurts your ability to go get Free Agent talent for the roster and starter draft prospects.

In my wildest dreams I can’t see this happening unless they trade Trubisky.

The Bears are clearly going QB shopping in 2020 or 2021.

Last time they had Pace and his crew with almost no coaching staff help and they blew the pick historically.

Now they have 4 coaches with QB experience to evaluate and cross check for them.
You said that DeFilippo would be there when they draft the next QB. That is not the same as QB shopping in 2020, and there is, at this point, zero reason to think that the Bears will be drafting a QB this year.

Furthermore, if DeFilippo is the guy that makes it finally click with Mitch there is no reason to believe that he won't be on some list to get a higher paying/higher profile job. If Mitch continues to suck, then he'll be fired. Since the NFL coaching hiring practice is pretty incestuous, I imagine John will have a job no matter what. But to think that he'll be around for the next young QB the Bears draft is a massive assumption based on nothing.

I can't remember the specific game. I just remember watching on TV in the middle of a game. Can't remember if it was 3rd down or 4th down, and Nagy and Ragone were very animated. It seemed they disagreed on what to do in that moment. It sucks that I can't remember what game it was.
probably against the rams..i'll watch a few games later this week after tomorrow's playoffs.

I'm impressed by this.

Note what he says at 1:55 "The key to this play is protection. Protection Protection Protection. Whenever you're throwing the ball down the field."

Let's hope he knows what he's getting into with Mitch & this OL & has a plan to fix it.

Another. Hope he can also fix the red zone offense. Pretty cool concepts on the route running...might just get Miller up to level up? Could do things if they bring in their own Ertz. Flip had Burton as his 3rd TE BTW, sooooo yeah.

Maybe he came in with aspirations of taking over if Nagy fails?

All for it. Talking of new qbs and such. Making Trubisky better is the preferred path financially. We've seen a younger Trubisky play pretty well in the past. Though with major qbs possibly available you would have to explore the option.
