My favorite teams
  1. Chicago Cubs
  1. Real Salt Lake
  1. Chicago Bulls
  2. Utah Jazz
  1. Chicago Bears
  1. Chicago Blackhawks
  1. Utah Utes
9) The Bears need to ... keep on keeping on!
Wait, what? My suggestion for the Bears is to continue forging on? How does this make sense in a "Mr. Fix-It" column? Maybe I'm getting a little slap-happy in the last entry of a "Schein Nine." Or maybe I just think this is a franchise headed in the right direction, contrary to popular opinion entering the season, contrary to conventional wisdom when it comes to a 2-5 team.

I don't think I've ever been so impressed with a bad team. After last season's epic disappointment, Chicago's energy in 2015 has been noteworthy. And as I wrote on Monday, Jay Cutler has re-emerged as a legit quarterback and should be the Bears' guy again next year.

The first half-season under John Fox has been far more positive than most anticipated, despite trades and injuries. Chicago has been competitive, particularly in the last four games. Now, the Bears need to keep it going and carry momentum into next year.

At what point do you say, "Enough is enough" and just fire the guys in charge?

I think a head coach deserves 2-3 years minimum, and a GM deserves 3+ to prove whether or not they're the guys for the job. So far, I do like what I've seen from Pace and this coaching staff (for the most part). There's simply a clear lack of talent on the roster, but I trust that Pace can fix that with 2-3 drafts.

Ranking first-year head coaches (so far)

7. John Fox, Chicago Bears, 3-4

Of all the new coaches, Fox took on the biggest challenge. The Bears lacked talent on defense. Fox and defensive coordinator Vic Fangio have done good work. They switched to a 3-4 even though the roster lacked 3-4 personnel. The Bears are giving up 342.3 yards a game, around 25 less than last year. Offensive coordinator Adam Gase seems to be working with quarterback Jay Cutler so well that odds favor the organization staying with Cutler next year instead of unloading him in a trade.

What will be tough is doing better than a 6-10 or 5-11 season. Matt Forte is hurt. The already thin defensive line can't take one more injury. What Fox has to do in the second half of the season is how to add to the roster next year.

Thought this went in line with this thread theme. Props to Clayton for giving the Bears an extra win.

this gushing over a bad team is getting fucking ridiculous. both the D and the O are bottom of the league. but oh look, the D isnt giving up record setting 50 burgers and the O isnt turning the ball over at a league leading rate. so that must mean jays the future and the D is only a step away.

lol

The homer is strong in these parts. People keep talking about the coaching with three bottom feeding units. Different is not the same as better.

And some people are to stupid to realize that this team is void of talent and that had little to do with the current front office.
And those same people can't figure out that the article's main focus is about the direction of the team, not the current product.

Look at the re-build the Cubs just went through. It's easy to look at Pace (youngest GM in the NFL) and this coaching staff and get excited about the future.

A few weeks ago there was this thing going on around here how our D was the best in the NFC in yards allowed. Some posters were actually pounding their chests as a "I told you so".

I remember people pounding their chests in saying that they would be improved this year. I don't remember anyone pounding their chest saying that they have arrived. But maybe that doesn't fit your narrative.

And last week the defense gave up Zero total Tds until the last minute or two of the game. Both the Detroit and Minnesota games should have been won and were totally there for the taking. I have two problems with this team right now, and they are how we are finishing these games and special teams. The special teams part of it is obvious, and we are spoiled from a history of having great special teams until a few years ago.

In our last two games in particular, in the last few minutes or defense falls apart, and the offense can't get a first down. If we could do either of those two things, we are
4-3 right now instead of 2-5.

You must be able to see the massive improvement in our defense.
