I'm not sure about the NFL, but in college, on average, playing at home gives the home team 3 points on the spread. Bigger home field advantages like a Clemson, or LSU are actually worth more against the spread; up to 6 points.

I'm not sure if that's the case in the NFL though.

3 points to the home team is standard. If Vegas sees the two teams as even the home team will be a 3 point favorite.

Whenever there's a thread on here about a points spread, I can always count on multiple posters to (a) point out the overused line about home teams getting about 3 points, and (b) subtract 3 points from the home team and say something like, "Vegas thinks the Bears are only a field goal better than the Lions!"
