I was just reading on ChicagoBears.com the the Bears have aquired a new Offensive Guard from the Arizona Cardinals practice squad, Herman Johnson. He was a 5th round draft pick in last years draft but has not seen any game time thus far.

He's 6-7 360lbs and played college for LSU. This guys birth weight was 15lbs. 14oz. (That's Freakin Huge) and he's noted as being the largest baby ever to be born in that state of LA.

I know it's late in the season, I'm sure we probley won't see any play time out of him this year but, it sure will be someone to keep an eye on in Bourbonais this summer! Wow......I really can't wait to see what this guy can do on the practice field. Hopefully Tice can work some magic with this guy and put him to work for us!

Too bad he can't play tackle, I would love him to take J'Marcus Webb's spot.

He's a 6-7 guard? Generally guys that tall play RT.

This is big enough to play tackle, but the one thing I'm really sick of is the Bears playing their players out of postion. Harris should be a Strong Safety, Willams is now a guard, Webb has played left tackle his entire high school and college carrer and now plays right, Lewis was a tight end that now plays guard....it's just the same story over and over. Then all this time is wasted on developing the player to their new position and we release them before they ever reach their full potential.

But like I said....this guy will be something to watch at Training Camp next Summer. I can't wait to go!

Reports from somewhere said Tice may like him at tackle. It's Tice who likes the guy but the reason he was drafted in the 5th round, when all the media and Bears fans who wanted him(There was a lot) had him expected to go in the 2nd or 3rd round, was because he is too tall and big to play guard in the NFL for almost anyone.

He compares to Phil Loadholt at RT. Kind of too big and slow but could be a good run blocker, it's likely nothing ever comes of him though he doesn't have the experience or probably the skill to be a legit starting RT, neither does Loadholt despite the Vikings playing him. Herm wont be playing this year though, unless mass injuries hit in the final 4 games.

DTG.. Harris played both safety spots when he was first year, he is a better SS but Manning there helps keep both guys better in coverage, plus with most of the whole season their front 7 has handled the run making it a non issue which is what you would expect.

Louis played and STARTED at Tackle and Guard at college, he was originally a TE but later seasons in college was an O-linemen, and he was actually decent individually as a young starter and has a potential starting future.

Williams at RT was a mistake, Webb at RT isn't necessarily a bad move, he is too raw to even be starting RT right now but is the better choice over Shaffer.

Chris Williams was a LG when he played with Cutler. If you look at his combine scouting reports most felt he may be best to start out as a LG early in his career. Like HOFer Johnathon Ogden did.

I'm not so sure that Webb shouldn't be playing right tackle. Many of the good right tackles in the NFL are former college left tackles. I think it's far more probable that the reason he's struggling at RT isn't that he should be on the left, but rather he's not a starting quality player.

I'm excited to see what he can do with Tice's coaching. He's got the size and ability, now it's up to him to get focused and show the Bears that he's ready to knock open some holes.

This was likely a Tice move. They're going to use Johnson as a RT, but he's just a developmental player for now. Once he gets his hands on you, it's over.
