I still have the $2 winning ticket from that great, historic day......it only paid the mandatory $2.10 so it wasn't a financial sacrifice. I was only 16 at the time and I went out with an order cousin who placed the bet for me but I was still wise enough to know I'd be witnessing history and watching the greatest athlete ever.....

A performance for the ages.

Awesome memory. That clip gives me goosebumps every time I see it.

Ok, I get that this is the Bear Forum.....but this new stadium will serve far more than the 10 dates for Bear games. I'm not even sure when the smoke clears that the Bears will even be the primary owners. I would hazzard a guess that there will be at least 50 dates to fill with some running a week or so like conventions where at one time the Chicago area was king. The Chicago Bears are only part of the package.

Developing Chicago park district land or land that once was along the BEAUTIFUL lake front is dam near impossible and always has been thanks to the great Daniel Burnham and his "Grand plan' for the city he loved.

Soldier field can now be used for other profitable shows and concerts as well.

You are right, they will find uses but it is still a bad place to see a concert.

That's a matter of opinion,I think Soldier field and Northerly island are both great venues for music.

Yep and the majority of the season ticket holders are in the suburbs....last number I saw was like 65% but that was awhile ago. Although some like @Leomaz who is in Indiana will be hurt by the move, most suburban ticket holders will not.
It’s just a longer drive. Not too big of a deal. I hope they open the tailgating lots earlier than at soldier field

As dysfunctional as the whole Soldiers Field gameday is, the small stadium is a great place to see a game. In the Dallas Jerry Jones Memorial Megastadium, the upper decks are so far out you have to watch the jumbotron (or whatever the hell they call it) to see the game. At least in Soldiers field you can watch the actual plays and then if by chance the Bears make a good play, you can watch the replay on the screens. For those who complain about food service and long lines, I do not go to football games for the cuisine. If I am thirsty that is what the beer man is for...

The (most recent) Stones show was a shit show getting in and out and general logistics. But whatever, your original point remains true. I know little of Northerly Island.

She wont have an issue because of the Bears they are breaking their lease .She doesn't really have the political capital to get things done in this current political climate anyway .

I think whoever the mayor is when they actually leave will be able to get something done with a private developer

It likely all comes down to money...The Bears have crunched the numbers and have decided that breaking the lease in favor of a new, more profitable facility makes economic sense. The political component is not a consideration for them.

For the Mayor ,just like ant political figure, optics are important. She's had a rough year by any standard, and this isn't going to make it any better. Some will not blame her in any way, of course, but some will. It comes with the job.

I think Chicago’s kidding itself if it just assumes it can keep plugging big acts into Soldier Field once Bears Dome exists in Arlington Heights.

If given the choice, are the big-name music artists performing at the brand new facility with brand new equipment and comfort, or the old run-down outdoor venue?

2 things. (didn't read all 16 pages of posts sorry)

Whoever helped design the current Soldier Field stadium, should not be allowed near the plans for the new stadium.

Those that are on the wait list for season tickets, will they all be bumped up, as the new stadium would be bigger? How many openings do you envision? How many thousand?

That would work. I'm not familar with the surroundings at US Bank but I would bet the "bank" that the stadium at AP will not be just a stadium and parking. There is a shitload of land involved. I'm thinking restaurants, hotels, casinos....probably even shopping of some sort.
