Durham Smythe sounds like the name of an 80s villain from a movie where poor kids finally win in the end against the trust fund, country club, daddy's boy, rich kid.

He's a good blocker, that's all he is. Hopefully they will use Kmet correctly.

Every move is severely scrutinized in here, even small ones. I guess acquiring young, future hall of famers to cheap contracts is the only acceptable level for some. Strive for a roster with 53 hall of famers, sounds like a plan

I don't know much about the guy, but from these clips he is a willing blocker, seems to have decent hands, knows where to sit in zones and can catch over the middle. He won't wow you or anything as a receiver but seems to be ok

They just acquired a pro bowl player and an all pro... tons of complaints that they were bad moves.
I can't complain about the moves, but hopefully Thuney makes the pro bowl with the Bears. Him making pro bowls with KC is irrelevant at this point....unless you want to make the remydat argument that Caleb has now played with an all-pro OL in front of him....

I hope both guys they added stay healthy and that they play at least close to the highest level that they have displayed in the past. The Bears have money so their contracts are irrelevant and the same people that wanted to pay $23-25M for one guard should be ok paying $32M in total for two guards that have played at close to that same level.

Though Smythe is a very good blocker he can also catch a few passes, his high was 35 pass receptions in 2023 I believe. Not bad for a blocking TE.

other than Thuney, they are all meh
What have the Bears done so far. let's see, an All-Pro guard, a solid NFL starting caliber guard, a blocking TE/FB who has the ability to catch a few passes. Seems to me like the Bears are shoring up the protection for CW, while vastly improving the blocking for the running game. Doesn't sound like meh to me, and that's before free agency even starts.

Thuney is real good, the rest is meh, what good is run blocking when your running backs are sheist
