Some of you guys are unreal. One down year by Howard and now he wasn't even worth a roster spot this year. GTFO.

Nagy and Pace have been working overtime to move him. They obviously do not value his skill set for this offense. Nagy had him for a year. He wasn’t impressed.

Howard was not going to be on the team this year. We were either going to trade him or release him after we drafted his replacement. It was obvious he wasn't a fit for the offense and there was no point in keeping him around.

I appreciate what he did for us during some rough years, but I am very eager to see what Nagy can draw up for a runningback that actually fits his scheme. Glad we were able to get some form of compensation from him.

Who or what would be an example of a "fit"

I'm just disappointed at the fact we get nothing back this year and now we have to fucking replace the guy..this is a huge hole at RB position now.

You got to take what you can get. We got an asset for a player that we had no intention of keeping and that was a bad fit.

He wasn't good last season. He is a poor scheme fit and he has declined the last 3 years.

My only frustration is that we did not get a 2019 pick. The Bears could have really used a 2019 pick for him.
nah you know this trade was bad..we got nothing back for this season.

As well as a reason we took only a 6th for him...
hopefully the eagles pay back this favor someday soon and it's not a freaking a pick we traded howard for.

I think the other aspect that forced the trade was that Howard's salary and cap hit increased to that $2 million mark. They clearly felt that was too high, especially with their cap situation and some of the other contracts they need to do like Whitehair's coming up. Otherwise you cannot explain how they get rid of Howard but Mizzell still has a roster spot.

So! Clearly they are drafting someone and I would hope that they still sign a cheap veteran at some point. That would give you Cohen/Davis/Draft pick/TBD vet going into next season. I would not be happy to see another year of Mizzell taking up a roster spot after they moved Howard.

so you like many others..wants to draft a RB and sign a RB to replace ONE RB!? .great, that's just fucking stupid.
ETA; BTW why carry 5 freaking RB's on the roster? EXPLAIN.

This is consistent with what we have been hearing all offseason - The league, Bears included, just didn't value Howard that much. I don't think the team is better today without him, but I don't think it will in any way be a limiting factor in the offense. I felt like when it was a Howard drive last year, it tended to be less effective. Not sure if numbers back me up, but that's my impression.
I agree with this post, and that was my impression, too. I feel like opposing defensive coordinators breathed a sigh of relief when Howard was on the field and Cohen was on the sidelines.

So, not sure how you got your numbers. I showed going into next season with 4 runningbacks, not 5. And I was also looking to see them dump Mizzell. So, -2 and +2 for 0 net gain in the number of runningbacks.

Last year the Bears had:
1. Howard - Now traded
2. Cohen
3. Cunningham - Not resigned in FA
4. Mizzell

My assumption is that they will probably stay with that number. Howard is now gone. I would like to see Mizzell gone. I'm assuming that Nall is still just a practice squad guy.

So, for next year you would have:

1. Cohen
2. Davis
3. Draft Pick
4. Veteran Signing / Maybe Nall?

Im pretty bummed they traded him for a damn bag of chips, so im gonna look at it like now we can draft a kicker. If i believe they traded him for a kicker, it seems to piss me off less.

Sad to see him go but none of this is remotely surprising. It was very clear that he did not fit the offense last year. Those saying this creates a hole clearly don't understand that they already had a hole at running back with Howard, and he was clearly not part of the long term plan.

In the end, it's time for Bears fans to move out of the 1980s. Running backs simply are not important players anymore. Just find guys that fit what you want to do.

LMAO at all this bitching over a one trick pony.

We finally have a coach that wants to build a modern offense and you clowns are clinging for the offense of Lovie past.

It's a legit point that they didn't want to pay him $2 mill and that had a lot to do with the trade.

We obviously draft one, but don't think there is any need to sign one with Cohen, Davis, and a draft pick.

Hopefully they dump Mizzel I've never seen anything from him as a RB I dont know why he's still around he must be good on ST

Don't mind that we traded him and don't mind the comp. The issue is we traded him to a contender that just finished knocking us out of playoffs. Not sure why we help competitors take low risk gambles that could pay off for them.
That's basically my thing too. Why the fucking Eagles?
