George, just take a vacation bro...nobody needs you hanging around the organization.

What are you worried about man, an employee ruining the good reputation of the Bears? A bit late on that...

George: (sometime next season) Hey just checking how's that football thing going?
GM: Who is this?
George: George McCaskey, son of the daughter of the Bears original owner. The guy that asked my mom permission to give you the job.
GM: Oh yeah. Haven't heard from you since January. Things are great. Thanks for the interest.
George: Wonderful, nice talk, keep up the good fooballing.

Most GMs report directly to their owners. Most owners are idiots.

This is hardly a unique situtation to the Bears.

We'll know how fooked we are in a few weeks but the thought of the Michael crew picking the next GM is disturbing. I was really hoping for a new head of football indication in that press conference. Reporting to George instead of Ted is absolutely no difference than before. Look at the cap, draft, salary and personnel situations and tell me where Teddy told Pace no in the last few years. Offer alternatives? Yah, :ROFLMAO:George won't either.

What happened yesterday is exactly why I was OK with the Bear moving Pace up the ladder. If the didn't restructure in that way, I suspected we'd get something like this. I'd much rather be talking about who the Bear should have hired as head of football in place of Pace today than talk about the lack of having one.

However, most owners have other businesses that got them the success to be able to buy a football team. So, if an owner doesn't know much about football because he's busy running a conglomerate, producing movies, developing real estate, etc., it's understandable. But in George's case, football is his family's business and he's clueless at it. There's no excuse. He's like a kid that grew up in an auto shop full of professional mechanics that can't tell the difference between a wrench and a screwdriver.

i see someone is just regurgitating what dbb said last night.

Have any thoughts of your own that don't involved powdered sugar and chocolate syrup?

Oh, no doubt there. However, here's what's different to me.

It is true that the McCaskeys have run the Bears like a mom and pop shop. They've LONG been the suckers at the poker table (When you sit down to play poker, first order of business is to spot the sucker. If you can't spot the sucker, then you're the sucker).

But Jesus did George do a fucking heel turn in his own odd, demented little way.

For him, that presser was a stand-offish bit of "fuck you all, fuck that dead kid's parents and watch as I abuse their memory to tell dumb Bears fans to fuck off, fuck Olin the lying shit, fuck the ex Bears who run to the radio to bitch about us, fuck the fans who won't let off my damn family, fuck the press who has been on our dicks for decades despite the fact that those ******* know even less about running a football team than I do and are just trying to sell papers and click to the dumb Bears fans I just told to fuck off. Yeah, I got Ted Phillips here JUST TO PISS YOU OFF. So fuck everyone, and if you think you're pissed now, wait until you see the next shit. Fuck around and find out."

I mean - coming from a McCaskey, when you sit down and think about it - its pretty fucking epic and hilarious, and came across just as weird as you'd think it would, but that could just be, George finally got some good advice from Polian, who was able to not only tell George he was the sucker but SHOW him HOW he was the sucker, and how the rest of his NFL connections were abusing the McCaskeys, and I think it broke poor George, but in the best possible way.

Because if you ignore the presser, the search they are conducting has been probably not only one of the most expansive but most professional I think I have seen in the Bears' existence. They are leaving no stone unturned. This has to be 100% Polian-driven.

And I think by virtue of having to sit in on all of these interviews, getting different perspectives from different football people all across the league, and with Polian right there to help George wade through the bullshit, I really do believe this has the possibility to make George a better football owner.

Remember - in past searches, George only sat in on the finalists - someone else got that list together every time.

This time, he's there to interview EVERYONE. And you hope some of that knowledge rubs off and makes him more equipped for "next time" (although, i don't think there will be a next time - they will get the stadium done, built, and then sell.)

Dude, he's 77 years old. If he hasn't acquired some knowledge by now, I doubt new knowledge will somehow rub off on him. After 2 media shit shows around Nagy's firing that he failed to handle, he pulls that Olin crap to further show he hasn't learned shit. I have watched the McCaskey sitcom since it's premiere in 83, and watched it jump the shark decades ago. We are about to hit year 40 of that comedy, and I still don't see anything different now than in the last 4 decades.

My hope is the McCaskey's sell after they close on the land. That gives the new owner a blank sheet of paper to build what they want. I don't see any advantage to sticking around to actually build the stadium. In fact, that may work against them if they make mistakes developing that land.

You would think, but the McCaskeys are super insular. George looked like he was pissed off at the world in that presser. My guess is Polian disabused him of that insularity.

Unless they hire a football ops person, which they said they aren't, then who else would the GM report to? The problem is not having a football person as a buffer between the GM and ownership.

I get that's the hope, but the McCaskeys care very much about legacy. They will want to build George S Halas Stadium first.

Why does a GM need to report to a football person? Many NFL organizations have the GM as the top football person...

The advantage is that they'll be able to sell for a lot more $$
