Just saw that on Facebook. Lol but it's a good read. I always liked Ryno. Very classy guy.

Thanks Ryno. Tell that to Derek Jeter or the dozens of players this past decade that skipped the All-Star Game because they were "hurt."

Now, for those of you with better knowledge of history than I do...did they ever ask Ryne Sandberg to be the last replacement All-Star on the Sunday before the game?

The point is you get asked to go, you go, unless for a family illness or emergency. You don't go on vacation when asked to go to the all-star game.

He got asked to go on the last possible day they could've asked him, when he already made possibly very expensive plans to fly home for the weekend to be with family. I think fans are being a bit unreasonable here.

Aramis is a poor person who couldn't have afforded a change of plans

And the Cubs wouldn't have paid for the family to come see him

Money is not an excuse for Ramirez.

It should be a goal to play, and when offered to be on the team, you take it. He can never play on the 2011 All-star team again. Instead, he goes on vacation.

Being an alternate/replacement on the all star team is kind of lame imo.

Aramis Ramirez has been to the ASG before. He should probably have been picked much earlier but they had rules in place and a chain of succession. I doubt he really gives a shit what you or I think, the only thing that he cares about is that he gets to spend time with his family and rest up for the rest of the season. And I don't think he should be blamed for that either.

The bonus in his check wouldn't be lame.

I think he was offered the starting job before Rolen.

He was not. Rolen was tabbed first as the runner-up in the player vote when Chipper Jones bowed out. Then Polanco bowed out when he should've done so at least a week ago but didn't. That's why it took forever for Bochy to ask Ramirez, and by that time it was way late.

Not to mention he's a poor choice even for an alternate.

Why do you say that? He's been basically the best hitter in all of baseball for the past few weeks. His defense isn't great, but neither are a lot of players in the game.

Like I said before, given his slow start it doesn't surprise he wasn't voted in. But, the way he's been playing lately should have put him at the top of the list as a replacement at ANY position, not just the thin 3B.

And that's what bugs me, it should never be too late. If he has an ill family member, or an expecting birth, that's fine.

There's a lot of other things to consider as well. He might be nursing an injury or two, or just be sore because let's face it, he's getting older. The Cubs have played something like 18 games in 17 days and he did just get hit in the elbow by a pitch like 2 nights ago. It may have been a combination of having a few minor ailments, being asked very late and already having plans to go out of the country. You never really know.

If I was in A-Ram's position, I'd have no interest in going if I wasn't initially asked. Hey you're our 3rd or 4th choice, ya interested? No, not at all, I'll take some family time.

Nearly verbatim what I was going to ask, but was going to add he had a trip planned to go to another country to see his family.

I will say this again. Why is it so bad that a guy that at the last possible moment was asked to the All-Star game turned it down to be with his family? Yet no one here has issue with Derek Jeter not showing up at all even though he has been off the DL for a week, and is so hurt that he is the middle of a 5 game hitting streak and went 5 for 5 to get his 3,000 hit. Jeter, who doesn't live in another country, also isn't showing up at all at the All-Star Game either, but that is okay?
