I don't follow baseball near as much as I do football but this is really ALL they could get for him? I thought this dude was the next coming of Willie Mays. Why didn't they wait until the trade deadline? Might have at least got a prospect or two. But no....a no name pitcher on his way down.

If I am Bellinger I think I am insulted.

He has/had negative contract value, good player but not worth the contract.

It was a salary dump. The Cubs had payroll of 214 million last year. 184 million the year before that. They sit at 164 right now. So, you can expect 20 million more spent at the low end. they seem to really want Luzardo which would come in around 6 million. that allows bullpen arms to be signed. I doubt they go after any real position player. Belli was not needed anymore. You looking at a line up of

Happ
Hoerner
Suzuki
Tucker
Swanson
Busch
Matt Shaw
PCA
Amaya/Kelly

That is a solid line up with a lot of balance. Then, you are sitting on Cassie, Ballesteros, Alcantara, and Triantos. They are all almost MLB ready.

Them getting back a pitcher for depth was not bad and only giving up 5 million, but also got money from the White Sox.

Now, they do nothing with the money then thats a problem. But, all signs point too it will be used.

Waiting until the trade deadline means they pay half a year of salary for him while having 5 OFs.

They freed up $27.5 million and recently acquired a stud OF.

Don't they have four of those and only 3 spots?

Bleacher report was saying the were over the first luxury tax threshold last year and that after the bellinger trade they are at 191 which gives them $50 mill below the threshold and $40 million spendable if they want a buffer

The trade is fine. Its mostly to reallocate the money elsewhere; however, they couldn’t at least get a ham sandwich from NY?

It's already old news. If Hoyer invests in the team, fine. But knowing the history of these two ass wipes, I'll be surprised if it happens. Remember, this is the King of Dumpster Dives and his owner buddy.

They have a few needs

RH corner IF. Colby Mayo would be a huge stab on a deal.

SP. Few tossed out there on trades.

BP: need a lefty

So 25M will help to address some needs.

Mayo was tossed out there on a pod. I did like it as he is blocked at Balt. He is the #9 prospect and would be perfect at 3B full time. That allows Jed to use Hoerner in a trade to aquire Castillo

That would soak a good chunk of Cody but it frees up 12M to be used towards the pen

It is a reach as I really don't even have a clue what Balt even needs much less if the Cubs can address it. Maybe Taillon I guess and they go after Luz also.

Regardless that one is a big reach. Too bad that Jed won't just target Bauer on a min deal. That creates drama but the upside would be great.

I mean, the Yankees took 52.5 million dollars in the deal. I’ll take that over the ham sammy
