I like that Johnson and Monken seemed to understand the importance of running the ball consistently to beat the steady diet of 2 Deep variants more than any of the other potential hires.
That was really my main gripe with a potential McCarthy hire. He refused to run the ball when his passing attacks were borderline bad against 2 deep. As a result McCarthy would play right into the hands of opposing DCs and switch to a dink and dunk approach to supplement running the ball.
The biggest weaknes of the COVER 2, the inverted COVER 2 & 2 DEEP MAN is to run the ball.
It's nice to finally have an offensive minded HC that understands that being creative offensively doesn't only pertain to slinging the ball around in the air.
