Might as well go full Lion and hire Jim Schwartz as DC.

I’m a little surprised Jim Knowles’ name isn’t getting more traction as a DC candidate - feel like he’d really suit what we’ve got already

Pete Carroll isn’t coming here to be a DC.
I agree.

I want Pete Carroll to come in as Team President of Football Operations with the chance to work on the culture of the Bears while I would demote the Used Car Salesman, Warren to President-of-Stadium-Construction-and-If-He-Does-Not-Choose-a-Fully-Bears-Owned-Stadium,-George-Has-the-Right-to-Whack-Warren-On-the-Back-of-the-Head-With-the-Shovel-Warren-Was-Planning-On-Using-to-Dig-the-First-Shovel-Full-of-the-Bears-New-Stadium-And-the-Bears-Can-Still-Shift-to-Arlington-As-the-Stadium-Location.

If Beta Ben can get Dennis Allen that would be a huge get not only for the D but for the leader of men role. Kudos if it happens as didnt think Beta Ben had it in him.
Look at the bright side 9.9/10 you’re wrong and make an ass out of yourself and double and triple down on the stupid. Based on that odds are this will be a great hire

I chose Other.

I like where you're heading with this strategy.

At first, my thought was to to exhume the body of Buddy Ryan. His corpse could probably still out-scheme, out-plan and outcoach most of the guys on that list. Then I says to myself; "Self, this position description sounds like Mike Singletary!" Intense, leader of men type. HC experience; has probably learned from his mistakes. Experienced the real deal and earned Buddy's love. Is at age where he is just looking for that final opportunity to make a legacy statement. Has vowed his next chapter will be something special. If given full control of the D; would likely succeed playing the role of Buddy II.

Hopefully Dennis Allen gets finalized. I guess the Bears get him due to Ben Johnson. And the Bears get Ben Johnson due to @Mighty Joe Young .

Which might lead to a Special Teams coach too.

I mean - I had nothing to do with that. I was just lucky to know someone "in the know" about a year ago and we keep in touch.

Ok for anyone not in denial, there are obvious concerns about Ben Johnson's ability to lead. There is also the question of who can he bring in as DC given the bulk of his history is with Dan Campbell.

So is there a path here to kill two birds with one stone where they find a leader of men type to be the DC? Someone who may not have previous history with Ben but who they can throw a **** ton of money at and give them some autonomy to run the D as they see fit?

For me that guy would be none other than Pete Carroll. Let's assume he doesn't get a HC gig. What better way for him to show he has gas left in the tank than to be Assistant HC and DC of the Bears. He can help mentor Ben on the finer points of being a HC as well as be that leader of men figure to help keep the team in check. It is also rumored that he had a good QB development plan as part of his interview.

This would allow the Bears to hire the hotshot OC while still being comfortable that the team will be run like a professional organization and smooth over any first time HC growing pains.

So who would you pick? For the poll I tried to list guys that currently aren't employed as DCs at the NFL level and have head coach experience or plenty of DC experience. They hopefully are leader of men types as well.
I like your thinking but ego is an issue with all of us to a certain extent, I believe that Poles is an ego maniac based on what I’ve seen and I may be very wrong.

It’s like someone who hires people doesn’t hire the most qualified bc in the back of their mind, they’re worried about their jobs.

That’s why I don’t think he’d do that, he’s going to make it clear that he’s the one running the show.

Well dont know about more beta but yeah he seems more beta than alpha. Maybe two betas can collide and create an alpha scenario.
By some accounts, BJ seems more intense /high energy than boring low energy Dennis Allen

Also you keep saying beta Ben like it’s a joke but you’re the idiot who started that nonsense on this board.

I relayed what the concerns were based on media reports. It was reported by multiple people he came off as more of a beta. At the end of the day as long as he succeeds then dont give a shit.

Beta Ben just rolls off the tongue and apparently gets some of you riled up so will probably still use it to troll.

By all means continue using it, it’s just a reminder of how idiotic you’ve been on the matter here on CCS
