Fuk yeah!! No more pussyball.
It's going to be interesting to see how it plays out. I have noticed that some in the cut Tyrique camp want to replace him with Terrell Smith.

Terrell Smith was a schematic fit in Eberflus's defense as a run defending ZONE CB where Stevenson had to learn how to play out of his comfort zone and out of scheme.

With Allen the DC, now the shoe is going to be on the other foot schematically between the two CBs.

There is way too much love here for his actual talent. Washington game wasn’t his only bonehead play. He actually had quite a few of them…just not as blatant and costly. PFF has him graded out well below average.
Cut him, no. But he needs some serious improvement to not keep an eye out on alternatives and/or get another contract.

PFF grades are garbage, he gave up a lower passer rating against than jaylon johnson last year while being the main DB QB's threw at. A Passer rating of 83 against for a cornerback is good.

People on here think kyler gordon is amazing but he gave up 73% completion rate and had a passer rating over 100 on the season.

Tyrique has a lot of talent and should fit in well to this new scheme like @Runruffshod75 stated.

Would not be a surprise to Allen uses Smith at S as Allen likes S that can cover and Smith doesnt have the man cover skills for CB in this D but they are probably good enough at S where he will play more zone and cover more TEs ans RBs.

Ah yes...the old Bears trick of "move him to safety".
I think it gets more muddled than it used to be. Nickelbacks are safeties with better coverage skills. They still have to play the run well plus cover sometimes top-level receivers. Some coordinators use 3 safeties while others us 1 safety and the rest all CB/NB type players.

The first thing Ben Johnson should do is cut Tyrique Stevenson. Trade for him if you can, but even if you can’t, one way or another, find a way to get rid of him, immediately.

I know what you’re thinking. Wait a minute, he’s good!

I agree, I actually think he’s great,…at times. But the problem is, he’s got a bad attitude, and those things spread, like a stomach bug on a cruise ship.

You want to fix the culture? Save the cliched speeches. Take a bold action that shows this is how we do things now. This is the standard. This is what will, and will not, be tolerated.

Yes, it’s difficult. But that’s exactly why this action will have impact. If he wasn’t any good, nobody would notice, or care.

And make no mistake, this team’s biggest problem is culture. Even before the season was lost they were playing at half speed for the first three quarters of every game. That’s purely culture and attitude.

Did you watch the playoffs? Do you see the way those guys are flying around? The urgency and effort? I know it’s playoff football, and that kicks it up a notch. But you could kick it down 10 notches and you still wouldn’t have Bears football. It looks like a different sport.

I can’t stress enough the importance of doing this asap, before you get to know him, and like him, and appreciate all his upside, and the context of all his actions. Blah, blah blah. Do it now. That single action will make everyone else on the roster 10% more alert, more focused, more energized, and better.

....or maybe Stevenson just needs better coaching / leadership

It is odd to me that this keeps getting brought back up. The Bears don't sit back in zone coverage all game long. (You didn't say this) nor are they a Cover 2 team.

The Bears played the most man coverage of ANY team in 2024.

Flus likes to run a single high safety both Cover 1 and Cover 3. Also, when you see 2 high he is usually in Cover 2 Man, ie the corners are in man coverage underneath. So even when you saw 2 high safeties more often than not the corners were playing man.

That doesnt look to be correct what you show there unfortunately.

Statmuse is a pretty broken website because its ran on crap AI, so a lot of the results make no sense

I did find this,

Looks like the bears did play a considerable amount of zone.

One note I will make, is that people think dennis allens defense is agressive, but unless I am missing something everything I see online shows him blitzing one of the least amounts in the NFL. The bears the last 3 seasons had a higher blitz % than DA's saints defenses.

And I bet he STILL sends more than 3 rushers on a game ending Hail Mary attempt play

Yea, my guess is the people saying he's aggressive may be on 3rd downs or big downs, because his blitz % is not very high.

I didnt watch too much of the saints the last couple years cause there wasnt much worth watching there lol

While Tyrique did himself no favors with distracting himself and then not covering the tap receiver in the back, the whole situation would have been moot if Flus called an actual defensive play on the play prior which gave Wash an easy/quick 15 yards to even have a chance at the hail mary.
100%! When the announcers know "Daniels can't throw it that far. They're going for a quick 10-15 to get him in range" and then they proceeded to do exactly that showed me that Eberflus isn't truly prepared like he should as a coach and that mistake likely cost him the game. That and sending no one to blitz when they needed to Hail Mary was also dreadful

Correct. Like Fangio he also will send 4 but from differents like sending the NB while dropping the DT or DE into coverage so technically not a blitz as still a 4 man rush.

His coverages are also more aggressive as he plays more man and/or press.

Yeah, the most man coverage for any team did seem like a surprise., not surprising that part was wrong Good find! Flus still likes to play a single high safety more than any other shell over the top, which I've said for years. Can you find a breakdown of when Flus was fired? Because those stats will be impacted by their being a different DC for a fair portion of the season.

He’s unblockable when he wants to be unblockable. He was damn near invisible against a backup OG on the Commanders. If he shows up big against KC & The Sunshine Refs, Eagles win.
Are you saying he half assed it against the Commanders in the NFCC?

Don’t know what he did but he sure as hell didn’t do anything. Him half-assing it is nothing new as well, he was massively hungover in the CFP game vs Ohio State. I know this because he didn’t leave Magic City until 6am that morning.

He was making sure his teammates weren't breaking curfew. Leadership!
