Hand timings are always faster than combine timings because the clock doesn’t start until after the runner has taken off. This is because the hand timer can’t anticipate exactly when the runner will go, unlike the laser timings which start simultaneously at first movement. So if Fields did stumble, he’s probably a legit 4.44 as he timed.
yea i know hand times aren't exact but yea he stumbles. the show Hey Rookie is also pretty telling. Micah Parsons and him had a big bet of who would run faster 40 and they raced each other a ton and both said they would win, well Parsons ran a 4.39 at pro day. so guessing they were pretty even in training. i think can group guys by tenths. 3 hundredths is no difference but 4.4 and 4.5 are quite different. 4.4 to 4.67 is a canyon.

I'm just going to wait until he plays.

...never forget how much of a lock Jameis Winston was 5 years ago. 1st overall guy - didn't get a 2nd contract from the team that drafted him.

It happens...

Jameis was never a lock to be awesome lol he had 28 picks in 27 career college games. he got in trouble in college. he was super cocky and careless with the ball. personality and work ethic were huge red flags. ironically what they tried to tear down Fields with, but there was zero proof or truth to it? which made it super strange after the fact lol most NFL analysts seemed pretty perplexed by it once had chance after draft to sit back and evaluate it all.

we got lucky. finally. Fields would be a #1 pick in a lot of other years and had a very legit case this year.

I can see the comparison of RG3 due to similar college play styles but I will defer comparisons until I see how Fields game play style changes in the NFL. I hope he uses his legs and mobility to buy time in and out of the pocket and only take yards when the play breaks down and less of play calls that purposefully make him the ball carrier.

Maybe Fields "slipped" all the way down to #11 in the draft because he "slipped" every time he tried to run a 40 yard dash. The draft process is mysterious and we don't know exactly how much NFL scouts value clean starts on timed sprints. I, for one, will be watching Mr(s). Fields very closely from here on out.

Fields is a pocket passer
Yup! Im telling ya he's 1998 Randall Cunningham under Dennis Green.

The threat for Fields to run will be present, and will even effectively occur from time to time.

Yet the very ability to scramble will force the defenses into some contain variant that a good QB can and should be able to pick apart, especially if they have any speed WRS with a solid YAC ability.

***MODS Is there ANY way possible that I can turn off that temper testing, screen jumping, pain in the ass, "messages have been posted since....", notification?

^interesting chart showing who he compares most to physically and athletically

not greatest list but McNabb is on it. also if look at list Fields is most impressive out of them all when project him to NFL. mainly cause he can actually pass and make reads and timing throws. unlike a lot of guys on list just used their legs mainly in college to dominate. Vince Young prime example. never was a very good passer and terrible side arm form. got by with it in college of course but had no chance in NFL. he also wasn't that fast actually and in NFL his running game would be gone.

the rare combo of elite speed with a very good passer is what sets Fields apart and makes him almost impossible to compare.

Any reason you're not focusing on his intelligence as a Qb.

He's comparable to Dan Lefevour & Javon Wims, GREAT.

Please stop talking about his 40 time. It's all about his development as a QB/passer. All the other stuff is window dressing compared to what his job will be in the NFL.

I'm jus all aboard for the ride, thats all

think I might only have one more QB hype and failure cycle left in me, so might as well go all in
I just don't want you to fall out of your treehouse while you experience ego death and then I have to read about my hippie bears buddy on erowid posthumously

It's probably the hardest thing to measure. Something like a 40 time or hand size can all be measured and compared.

How do you say one person is more intelligent than the other? Are you wanting to go back to the highly flawed Wonderlic test? Are you assuming all college offenses, teammates and opponents are similar, so you can just see who's smarter based on production alone? Is it just listening to how they talk and articulate their thoughts in a way you are used to hearing them?

Would Johnny Manziel be 'football smart' or just regular dumb?

Brett Farve probably never read a book, let alone a defense.
