The funny thing about the under center comment is that both Trubisky and Fields seemed to do better under center than in shotgun. It could be that was because the playcall when they were under center made for an easier read, I dunno.

There is more of a rhythm under center. You have classic 3, 5 and 7 step drops where you sort of know instinctively that when you hit your last step the ball is supposed to be out.

Shotgun is a bit different as you already start 3 steps back or so you can easily lose the rhythm of the play. Getsy did a good job of explaining how your footwork impacts your decision making.

The rest of Polian's quote:

“It takes four years for a rookie QB to come in and learn the job and be able to compete at the highest level in the NFL. That’s just a fact. It took Peyton Manning four years, and he had more tools to work with than most people.”

And lastly, it typically takes PATIENCE and time to develop into an elite quarterback.
What?

Peyton Manning was in the pro-bowl his second and third year. And that was in 1998, it definitely DOES NOT take four years in 2022.

The rest of Polian's quote:

“You look at what Justin has going for him, which is a remarkable arm, great mobility, good size (6-3, 228), good ability to run the ball,” Polian said. “Highly combative (competitive) guy.

“Also, Justin has a lot of work to do to develop into a first-rate NFL QB. It takes four years for a rookie QB to come in and learn the job and be able to compete at the highest level in the NFL. That’s just a fact. It took Peyton Manning four years, and he had more tools to work with than most people.”

Based upon these quotes, I would definitely say that Polian is a "Fields guy". He believes in the guy and realizes things that many who criticize Fields fail to realize.... namely: That Fields was given very little chance to succeed last year.... was playing with the deck stacked against him due, primarily, to poor coaching.... and the way his whole first year was poorly managed by those in charge.

And lastly, it typically takes PATIENCE and time to develop into an elite quarterback.
I can see that being the case with Manning, it really didn't start to click until the 2002 year when his completion % jumped. I think if Fields is going to succeed we'll see it most likely towards the end of year 2, going into yr 3. It was a complete dysfunctional shitshow that he was thrown into this year.

I'm so fucking tired of bears QB not noticing 12 men on defense, not having the wherewithall to call a quick snap to get the defense offside for a free play or busted coverage. I mean it's fucking football not rocket surgery. We need someone to train Fields to be a real NFL QB and I'm hoping we get that this time

well when it comes to "rocket surgery.".....I'll bet JF could handle it too ??

Seriously, this is why Fields needs someone skilled in Qb development.

I think he needs more than just that to succeed. He needs proper guidance, a coach that can help him with route trees, etc. I'm in the wait and see approach with this staff of the offensive side of the ball. But although they're young I like the resumes of the OC/QB coach. I wasn't aware that Janocko worked under Sporano for a brief time in MN.

Agreed. All this should come from ppl who know what they're doing i.e. the OC/QB coach.

It is a continual struggle for guys that mobile with that kind of arm to stay disciplined and take what the D gives you.
That's what makes Aaron Rodgers so darn good, he has years of practice take what the D will give him, guy knows when to go long and when to just take little bites. There are rumors of his tireless work in the off season practicing taking what the D will give him every single night.

WOW~!

“What he needs to do is to learn his craft, to learn what the pro game is all about,” Polian said. “He didn’t have a chance to do that last year. He was thrust into a complex offense that he had no experience with; under center where he had no experience at Ohio State. He wasn’t ready to play and it showed. But there is a lot to work with there.”

Take the opinion of the guy who said Lamar Jackson was a WR only.

I think the 2nd half of the Chiefs loss is a perfect example of Fields play this year. Mahomes just sat there waiting for stuff to break open and when it didn't he was left in no mans land.

It was weird to see him regress like that because he had overcome his early struggles when teams played more cover 2 by taking what the D gave him but he reverted to his natural instinct to always be on the hunt for a big play and it cost his team a SB berth.

That is Fields in a nutshell. He always wants to buy time with his feet hunting for the big play instead progressing thru his reads and following his footwork as Getsy noted.

If nothing is open then start running towards the LoS while looking downfield but if it still isnt there then get whatever rushing yards you can instead of still looking for the big play.

He has got learn to pick his spots whilw taking the easy stuff to keep the chains moving.
Yep. This. I'd rather he get 3-5 yards on plays that "don't work." That will get us a first down. Or if there is absolutely nothing, throw it away.

We have to really prepare to see this year as his first. Last year was a total bust, and only marginally his fault. I would be happy if we had a winning record and he showed growth. We'll obviously have some new OL as well, so can't expect them as rookies to put it all together immediately.

Isn't that the job of the new the OC & QB coach ?
He didnt learn anything about reading this year. Maybe it's too complicated for him?

Well Nagy had one of the more complicated offenses in the history of the NFL.
Nagy was a complicated "Qb guru and whisper". It takes yrs for a Qb to understand all
of the complicated practices Nagy put forth.

And unfortunately, this complicated misunderstood "Qb guru and whisper"was taken away from Fields.

I know what you are saying, but I don't think we need to go quite that far on the expectation front. My expectation is that we see him build on what he learned last year and show improvement this year - in his consistency, in his footwork and mechanics, and in his ball security.

There are bound to be some growing pains with any new system; however, by all accounts, Fields is a very intelligent person with a strong work ethic that wants to be a leader. So, I think we do him a disservice by setting too low of expectations. But, we need to be realistic and not expect him to play like a 10 year future HOF veteran in his 2nd year and 1st in a new system and likely surrounded by a lot of new teammates.

I’d invite this omelette guy, hope he comes from Lumes, over for a barbecue but I think he’d bring a tiny wiener. Lesbians make dick appointments. They’d skip over that chemically castrated clown. I have an Audi 8 and you don’t! I drive an 07 Chevy 4 cylinder Aveo for a reason. No reason to overcompensate. Fuck this omelette dude.

I like this coaching staff and GM hire, can’t wait to see where it grows ?

I like this Polian describes justin as “Highly combative (competitive) guy." . . .
