Here's the thing: Donovan made a WCF with the Thunder, but he had Durant and Westbrook. That isn't a far cry from what he'll have here, it's the fucking grand canyon. So, I can see what Donovan's ceiling is as a coach. What I don't know is what guys like Unseld or Udoka have as their ceiling, and that's why I've been stanning for Unseld (Actually, I was stanning for Adrian Griffin, but, well, ya know....).

The Bulls were on pace to be a 27-28 win team, prior to Covid. I think Donovan is at least worth a +10 in the win column. What I'm interested in seeing now isn't necessarily the draft, but what AKME does with the current roster.

donovan did pretty good with the roster he had this year in OKC. I thought it was a pretty crap roster and he took em to a game 7 at least

Nowhere am I suggesting that he isn't a great hire. In fact, I said that he would have had this roster playing better.

I’m aware. You just had a couple other guys you preferred because they are “unknown” as to what they add to a team. I’m just surprised billy wanted to come to the bulls, and am happy a coach of his caliber is in Chicago.

Put me in the group that is surprised by his decision.

You almost expect the Bulls to step on their own dick after years of mismanagement. This just feels different. Now they need to change the culture and 80 % of the roster.

I certainly can say i'm surprised. I didn't think Bulls would pay what he was asking and figured he'd want a team that was more established. I'm happy with the hire. Having a coach with HC experience is probably what we need.

He was also the top coach of the market and we got him. That's a good sign.

So Billy Donovan has never excited me in any way. While getting OKC to the playoffs in the West after Durant left is noble, his playoff track record isn't the greatest.

The blown 3-1 with OKC with Durant in 2016, constant first round losses since then, though I understand he had Westbrook, Paul George, and then an ancient Chris Paul (which did manage to take Houston to 7 games), all players that seem to show a lot of playoff struggles.

But I think as Bulls fans, right now we just want a turn around. Donovan may be good for that, in a way Skiles was back in 2003. We should be mindful, that in Skiles first full season, the Bulls went 47-35 and made the playoffs for the first time since Jordan. Donovan showed in OKC he could develop guys, so that's a plus. We'll have to wait and see what happens.

Whether Donovan ever takes us to the promised land, I have my doubts, but the ability to turn us around and get us competitive again is certainly there.

I kind of feel deceived...

But...Donovan is better than a lot of the other coaches out there. Like others, I have my doubts on if he'll be the one leading us to our next big playoff run, but I do think he'll be a good coach and that he will help the team get better. Maybe this is a team development and growth solution and later on we'll get a coach to take us to the next step. We're far away from that step so maybe he gets us to that in between.

Mixed feelings from me, but but I have no reason to necessarily think doom and gloom

It's make or break time for our "core" if you want to call it that. Lauri will be entering his 4th year, Wendell his 3rd. Zach is established but can he translate it into winning games? all the answers can be doom and gloom, but its what we have.

Billy being an established coach i think is fit to come in and answer that.

This beats my expectations by a fair margin.

The Bulls and to some degree, the city has a reputation issue. There is no way the highest valued *anything* will choose the Bulls over a fair chunk of destinations. I did hope they would have done a better job scouring for the next sleeper coach instead of going so conservative or following the hype-wire for names pumped by agents and glorified blogs.

The next step here is to see if he brings in some great assistants, because that's truly where a team develops high level skills to salvage this roster and give the HC some direction to play with. Mediocre assistants make good head coaches look bad and bad assistants make mediocre head coaches look stupid.
