I married The Actual Chick Fan. She'll share an IPA with you at the bar and not get giggly over Sharp, but knows what he brings to the table, and secretly put him into her "Top 5." Gives the evil eye to all of the pseudo-fans, yet will remind them of when the Hawks sucked, so be happy with what you have currently.
Oh, and don't call her a "chick fan."

Considering that my favorite sports are Ice Hockey, Rugby Union, and Soccer, I won't venture there. It's safer that way :D

The level headed fan: Understands hockey. May or may not have played, understands stats, trends, and sometimes doesn't wear emotions on sleeve, unless Matt Cooke is playing. **** that guy.

If I spent more time in Chicago as a kid, I'd probably be the "saw games in the old barn", but alas my 1st B'hakws game live was back in 1998...I remember Lindross slashed Chelios in that game. That and Mikita was better than Hull :)

I think I'd be level-headed, except I'm not only "**** Cooke" but "**** Torres" as well. :)

To add to Ares' post, I think there's also the Casual Chick fan, which my wife falls under. In spite of growing up in a locale where Hockey was big, never got into it until she started dating a rabid fan, and then found a common point with said significant other that they can rally behind (in my case, Hossa), Not incredibly knowledgeable about the finer points but doesn't come off as such--more causal than rabid. Not afraid to ask questions when they don't know. :)
