For those of you here that know a lot more about music than I do (looking at you tj), what blues albums / artists would you consider to be "essential"? I've listened to the obvious stuff (e.g. Robert Johnson et al), but looking for a good list to work through to expand my horizons a bit. Been Googling a bit to get other opinions and it's been a little hit and miss.

Recommendations?

RL Burnside

Charles Caldwell
Johny Farmer
Robert Belfour

There are few whom I recommend but be warned most of these guys are hard juke joint gritty blues men who dont cute a lot of shit up. Although after being discovered and recorded a lot of recordings from a few of these guys were cleaned up and mixed to heavilly. Stick to their earlier stuff if you want some real dirty ashtray shit. Dont get me wrong the heavier studio produced stuff is still really good too.
