Lot going on in this thread. First off, there's a serious credibility issue in play whenever Boers and Bernstein (especially Bernstein) take a negative stance against Marshall because they've been doing that before the ink dried on the paperwork of the trade that sent him to Chicago. Bernstein's whining about Marshall has only gotten louder this season. So don't put all of your stock in what they say. I'd suggest not listening at all, but that feels like a losing battle.
Now, Marshall cannot be absolved completely in this ordeal, either. I've seen the poor body language at times. I've seen the things that Stoltz references in his article. Although, I'd like to point out that Marshall taking himself out after certain plays is something he's done for since he's come to Chicago. Alshon does it, too. Just seems like part of the plan. Just so happened to come before a fourth down one time and everybody lost their minds.
I think you're just seeing a LOT of frustration out of Marshall. You don't think it's wearing on him that, after a decade in the league, he still hasn't made the playoffs? That'd drive me insane as well. And as his team continues to fall apart around him, I'm not surprised that he's joining in the calamity as well.
I do think some of his antics get overblown because of the reputation he has (and rightfully so) after his stints in Miami and Denver. But I don't believe this is the same WR that got ran out of those locker rooms; I truly don't.
I just think you have to look at these outbursts with the perspective that this entire Bears team has, for the last 3 weeks, completely imploded. Nothing is going right. I have a hard time believing a lot of this stuff would be going on if the Bears were expected to be this bad or if they were 5-4 or 6-3.
You can criticize Marshall. He's made some mistakes. But I don't believe you can treat these things as if they happened in a vacuum. There are some quite significant circumstances that are fueling these behaviors.
And, no, I haven't seen Marshall do enough things yet that would lead me to believe it's worth thinking about cutting him. Still way too soon for that.
