Still can't believe how epic the knockout was. When Pacquiao went down, my fiance looked up from her iPad and was like, "I think he's dead."
I'm a bit disappointed that this negates the perceived public value of any Mayweather/Pacquiao bought that would happen in the future. Mayweather said it himself that the loss obviously makes any future dealings more difficult (
a good article here). The loss actually brings a bit more intrigue to the sport, if you ask me. The severity of the knockout, coupled with how intense those six rounds are will stir up some more interest, whether it's in a 5th fight or Pacquaio coming back sometime next spring in hopes to get himself back into the pound-for-pound king discussion.
Unfortunately for Marquez, even with his first "no-doubt" victory against Pacquiao, I just don't see him landing another marquee name to fight him. Casual fans simply don't recognize his name unless it's connected to Pacquiao. Other than Mayweather and Pacquiao, he's never fought anyone who would pull in huge pay-per-view numbers or drum up interest outside of boxing purists. He'll probably step in the ring with a middling welterweight that produces a yawnfest of a fight.
