There is no doubt this move is awesome for MLS. Just don't quite get it for Bradley still.

5-6 year contract paying him 6.5 million per year (32.5-39 million)......I think he gets it......

Toronto was one of the teams Dempsey was interested in too. Philly was supposedly in on Bradley but got out-bid by MLSE and the Maple Leafs FC.

Wonder how much of this is interest in playing in Canada vs. just the $ with players wanting to go there.

And after all is said and done with Defoe (who will transfer on Feb. 28 but deal officially announced), TFC and Tottenham have a new business partnership.

Tottenham just scheduled a midweek friendly after Seattle and before us against Toronto FC in the same announcement. Hopefully that wears them down a tad bit.

If even more USMNT players come back to MLS there could be the added benefit of helping the team gel. And despite how well Bradley was playing at Roma he would get more playing time at Toronto.

I would rather see the U.S. players playing against the best in the world in Europe. Also the team would only gel if multiple players from the national team goes to the same MLS club which is not going to happen.

It's a good move for MLS but it's bad for the U.S. MNT.

I used to strictly think that as well, but I think you need both. You need some US players going up against the best of the world in order to raise the reputation of the US team. Guys like Geoff Cameron are a good example of this type as he has been getting rave reviews at Stoke. Then, you need guys to come back and challenge players at the MLS level, as well as raise the reputation of the MLS around the world and solidify the league. If I had to choose one I would say improving the league as a whole is more important than having a couple of players playing at the highest level around the world. It's the difference between having an inconsistent team dependent on a couple of individuals (the few playing at the highest level) to produce results or having a team that can easily replace an out of form or aging player with a younger player that is more than capable of reproducing the same play as the guy before.

I say the team could gel if more players play in the same league because every league has a distinct playing style, even if there are slight differences among the individual teams. It would keep players on the same page stylistically. And there could be a psychological boost from being in the same league, an "us against the world" mentality, though that is all theoretical.

The worst part when you think about the top quality of play in Europe stuff, is that Bradley didn't wait until the after the World Cup, when the next one would be four full years away, to make the move.
