Everyone overvalues the shitty contract and undervalues the strong play.

I could have seen Campbell being moved last season, so that guys like Buff and Ladd could have stayed. And I could see him getting moved next season when Leddy is a more mature player and can actually maybe replace Campbell.

But this season it made no sense. There was already room under the cap, the free agent class wasn't that strong and we had no huge names to lock up long term (after the Crawf deal).

Also, the guy we got in that trade is a bum... Stan could have done much better, he just had horrible timing.

And some of us realize the "undervalued strong play" is actually overrated.

Olesz may be a bum but may also be a new-start candidate. He may also be a buyout candidate.

I still think waiting makes that contract more unmovable than it already was. Let's see how everything unfolds.

Not sure where I read this but Florida is so far under the cap that they havent hit the league minimum which I believe is like $48 mil...and thats WITH Campbell. Maybe I'll hit the CapGeek and verify but if thats the case then Tallon is really cleaning house down there. So getting a "name" guy like Soupy was a need as he's gonna have a hell of a time
signing anyone to play on a gutted hockey team.

Next you're going to tell me you liked Huet's deal.

LOL

The only thing remotely likable about that deal was that Rocky ate it and sent him on his merry way to Europe.

I believe it, it wasn't a huge jump because Olesz's 3.5 was a hefty price. Vokun's 6.3 Mil is lost and some others.

It looks like they have 11 guys under contract for 22 Mil right now.

The way they'll get people is the way Tallon knows how, by paying out the wazoo for the FAs.

The shittiness of his contract could never be overvalued. They've been shopping him for a long time and now someone finally bit.

And there is absolutely a huge name that needs to be locked up. Sharp.

Aye. I fully believe they tried like hell to move Campbell in the past and never asked him to waive because trade partners were all saying, "No chance."

Who said I liked Campbell's deal? I hated it. He is so overpaid.

That being said he was the best defender all season for the Hawks and the best overall player for a long stretch. And his loss will hurt the Blackhawks more then the cap room will help them.

Listen to your own words. "WAS" and all season, talking about last season. That wouldn't matter going into the next season with him or not.

The only way to justify that mattering now is thinking Keith and Seabrook will not be better than last year and that none of the other D men will improve more than regress.

He is not worth being the highest payed defender in the league, which he is, and that cap still hurt the team still struggling around the limit.

Come on, he was never their best overall player for any stretch, let alone a long one. Sharp carried the team early on, Hossa had a short run of greatness and Toews really poured it on from the all star break til the end.

All Campbell did was have a nice (3.5 million dollars nice) season that looks better than it was because Keith had a shitty season.

You can keep thinking he was great and that he's leaving a big hole in the roster. Scotty Bowman clearly doesn't agree. I like you, but I'm siding with Scotty here.

I still like Campbell, but a few posts about him in places made me remember how many shots down the stretch of the season happened to be bouncing off him and going in the net.

He was doing more shot blocking but there is no way he would ever be all in dedicated to it.
