What are some of yours?

I once broke up with a girl at a wedding who thought I was going to propose to.

I was supposed to move out to Kansas City with the girl I was dating at the time. When I went to go sign the lease on the apartment, she called me from Target and said to go ahead and finish everything up and she'd head over there later before the leasing office closed to finish her part of the paperwork. What she didn't say was that she actually went to meet up with some asshole in the army who she had met on Omegle (yes, I'm not kidding) a few months earlier and she'd been texting. She ended up driving back home to Louisville without even telling me, leaving me in alone in a city where I didn't know a single person. I was lucky that I already had my job lined up and enough money to get me through my first six weeks.

It was a real shame because it always put my time in Kansas City in a negative light -- I actually loved living there. The city was a lot of fun, always tons of things to do. I went to a lot of Royals games with some of my friends from work.

I met this chick during my freshman year of college and we really hit it off the first day we met. We were dating for about 4 months and things were going great. She went to Cali [where she's from] to visit family for a week. She came back, things were different. I'm not one to jump to conclusions in relationships, but I had a feeling there was something that happened with another guy. I subtly brought it up and she called me paranoid. few days later we went out for lunch and she stupidly left her phone on the table when she went to the bathroom. Feeling "paranoid", I looked through her phone. First text I saw was a convo between her and some guy with her saying "neither can I :) " I clicked that to see the convo, and I got my answer. I scrolled all the way to the beginning of the convo and the first text was from him saying "now you have my # ;) " which was sent a couple of days after she got to cali. I read through some of it and it was clear that something had happened with that guy when she was in cali and that they've obviously continued the relationship.

When she got back, I called her out on it... she first got pissed that I looked through her phone, then tried denying everything. She started crying and started to say sorry and I wasn't having it. I kinda blew up on her actually. I was yelling and putting her down and just walked away.

She text me that night saying sorry again and if she can fix it. I didn't reply. She text me again a week later saying something like, "I understand that you're mad and you have every right to be. I don't expect you to forgive me but I'm really sorry. I also would understand if you don't want to get back together, but maybe we can still be friends and work through it and see what happens."

I replied with, "haha. **** no." She never replied back and I haven't seen or talked to her since then.

Btw Prope, did you make this thread because you broke up with someone recently or they broke up with you?

I've lived in Southern Indiana most of my life, originally from Chicago. I was initially moving out to KC because of my job (got a promotion with FedEx). Even after I broke up with that girl in KC, I intended on staying out there, but my dad was diagnosed with cancer at the beginning of 2010, so I ended up moving back here to be with him during his surgery and radiation treatment.

First girl I dated was as either a junior or senior in High School. Went away to college and was really excited as we all talked about our girlfriends or boyfriends and finally mine was coing down to U of I to see Metallica with me. She brought a girl friend with her to see the concert. But aafter the concert she decided to go home instead. I was devastated and started trashing things in my dorm room. Then like a fool I got back withher, went to her home coming dance, drove her home and she changed to go out with another guy. A few years later she got married and I had a possibiilty to hook up with her but I couldn't do it. A year or so later she IM me on ICQ (Is that still around?) and started sending me naked pics of her. She called me, and I told her that I had found someone(My aife today) and asked her never to speak to me again. I hung up wihtout her saying anything.

Another time, I was in a LDR between Chicago and NJ. After several flights back and forth it ended with her not saying I love you back. I was hurt.

Another relationship was between a girl in Cincy and Me. She had an abusive husband and was separated. She was out of my league but a lot of fun. I really felt I loved her and her 3 year old daughter. Needless to say, she steals my Credit Card and rings up charges everywhere. Everyone refunded my money except JC Penny's. They said too bad, I had to pay. Been over 13 years and JCP still doesn't see a dime from me.

I broke up with my most recent serious gf about a year ago.

We met at DCA (Reagan Airport in Washington DC) in 2008. I had just wrapped up my first serious job interview at the Times and she was on her way to New York to visit some family. I was with someone at the time but it was coming to an end. I felt good about the interview and I felt like I would get the job. We were sitting at the Starbucks at the same table, she asked if she could sit down because it was crowded. She spilled her coffee all over my SI and she apologized profusely. One thing led to another and we agreed that if I got the Times gig or was in DC she would treat me for dinner. We exchanged numbers but I don't think either one of us had high expectations for the pay off.

I didn't get the Times gig as a full timer but they offered me a freelance contract. I took it, broke up with my then flame, and moved out to DC 3 weeks after she ruined my SI (Josh Hamilton cover). I called her and she was surprised to hear from me. We met for coffee, then a movie, then a dinner (she didn't pay for shit, I'm too proud).

We had a tremendous relationship. She's the most beautiful woman I'd ever dated. We came close to living together but, well.

In October of 2010 I got a call from an old friend that told me he wanted to start a Latino magazine and wanted me as the main shooter. I flew out there and did the interviews. I was lined up for the gig. They were doing a soft launch in 2011 and wanted me out there then. I moved back in December of 2010, sans the girl. We maintained a healthy LDR, she was still in school for nursing and looking at hospitals out here.

Magazine flopped in June, my pay was cut and I left the company. I stayed in Chicago doing freelance work, fell into a few long term stories (still working on them) and was hoping the lady would get a job out here.

She ended up finding work in DC.

She decided that if I wasn't going to come back it wasn't going to work. I agreed. We took on last vacation with each other to the Emerald Isle out in North Carolina in August. The last time we saw each other was at the Starbucks where we met.

I still remember looking into her eyes and fighting back the tears, trying to play it off as a Casablanca moment. We embraced, kissed, said goodbye, and never talked to each other after that.

There's a lot of backstory as to why we don't talk but that's for another day.

That's probably the only girl I really loved and I've been hesitant to seriously date anyone since. I've only recently started trying again.
