Robbers weren't too bright to begin with. Trying to rob the security guy as he left the DOLLAR store. Were they going to try to hit up the strip club afterward?

Another reason why "running with the story without FACTS" makes the media look like idiots.

Gotta be the first one to tell the story! Wait, shouldn't it be factual and accurate? No way!

If it was an attempt on the armored car then he's in the clear.

Twitter has certainly made it even worse. Everyone wants information NOW.

I guess it depends on what the fact are. So many variable like excessive force, did they have weapons, ect ect....

Since they would rather report speculation than facts I think it's human nature to follow that.

Two men shot, one fatally, in armored car robbery

Share 0diggsdigg By Carlos Sadovi Tribune reporter 12:05 p.m. CST, January 28, 2011

chibrknews-two-men-shot-one-fatally-in-armored-car-robbery-20110128 One man was killed and another seriously wounded when they tried to rob an armored car in the Humboldt Park neighborhood this morning, police said.

The shooting occurred at about 9:46 a.m. outside a Family Dollar store in the 3400 block of West Chicago Avenue, according to Chicago Police News Affairs Officer Michael Sullivan.

Two men approached one of the Garda truck's guards as he was leaving the store with a money bag, police said. One of the robbers put a sawed-off shotgun to the guard's chin while the other pointed a gun at the guard's back, police said.

The guard was able to get his gun and shot both robbers in the head, police said.

One of the suspects was dead on the scene and a second man was taken in critical condition to Mt. Sinai Hospital, Sullivan said.

Don't know how much is immediate spin and how much is true, but I like this story much better for legal reasons.

I'm sorry but when you compare that article with the Fox one earlier, it's just plain poor journalism. Sad.

I don't know what's worse --- the media or the people twittering the info, which may also not be credible...

I'd rather wait until the truth does come out.

He had a sawed off on his chin and a gun in his back and he was able to get his gun and shoot both suspects before they could shoot him? Did these idiots even have the guns loaded?

Well that driver will get a nice 2 week vacation with pay.

I just want the news. Not sensationalism. That's a statement for all stations charged with the responsibility of giving us our news.

My thoughts: You choose to rob some one (armed), you're willing to use that weapon.

I guess we should feel bad for those pour souls that won't have the opportunity to rob again.

I think most people do Paul. The problem is the News entities could care less. They want to be first for the sensationalism part. They don't care if they get the story/facts right most of the time. Why watching/reading the news is often a waste of time. Even by the most credible sources.

The documentary I'm working on is facing the same issues.

The Biography Channel just did a crime documentary on the girl I have exclusive access to.

Facts are messed up-- the "dramatization" is slightly factual.

I think a journalist or documentary filmmaker owes it to the public to offer the facts and not bastardize them.

That's why so many people are against MSNBC, FOX, Michael Moore.

Totally agree. One of the reasons even though my Degree is in that Field I was discouraged to work with it. They are not there to report the factual news, rather obtain larger viewership. Sad sad sad. And this does not just work with televised media but print as well.

I am curious as to why you mention some of the mainstream news outlets. Why isn't CNN on your list?

They all have their bias. I certainly hope you do not come out and state that CNN is any better then

the others you have already mentioned.

Never said that.

CNN, CBS, _____ (insert media) has bias.

My omission isn't absolution from guilt if I don't mention them.

Having to work in security, this is the exact reason why I do not want to be armed. The tricky part in this that may be put to trial is the question of who threatened who first. We'll never know. The driver may get the short end of the stick as a result.

I don't know armed security laws myself, but I know for a fact that security guards are not cops. They'll never be cops... period. We can't even act as peace officers for heavens sakes...

I'll tell you one thing, though.... He'll never be working for the company again, simply because this kind of publicity is not what they want.

Armed security can use force to protect themselves as police can. Anyone can. But they can get sued for it. Cops get sued for shooting people that have shot at them first all the time. Just as the security guy could be. If you feel threatened, you can use as much force as is being used against you (Use of force continuum). So if he was being shot at or felt like his life was at risk, he's fine. It's simple to prove.

Lawsuits are the ***** part of it. Anyone who is commiting a felony can be put under citizens arrest. It's harder as a security company to get away with these things without a lawsuit coming up. The armered car guy should keep his job. He might get payed leave for a while. But besides that he just did his job. But the family's will probably sue. Then the company will settle. Happens all the times to cops just because they did the right thing.

problem with the media, is they want to be the first to report the story, the facts take a back seat to being first.

So did anyone find a good article afterward that presented facts other than what I posted?
