Good for Sopel!

"The power of the Cup is incomprehensible, and we recognize the importance of doing this," said McDonough, who has arranged for the Stanley Cup to be flown back from the National Hockey League draft in Los Angeles 15 hours early. "It's important for the city and important for the franchise."

Last week, the Chicago *** Hockey Association issued an invite to the Blackhawks and the Stanley Cup to join them at the parade.

They were hopeful, but "we know the realistic chances of them joining us for the Pride Parade are slim," CGHA President Andrew Sobotka told Sneed last week.

It was a different story Monday, when Sneed delivered the news. "We are thrilled and honored for them to consider and accept our request," said Sobotka. "It's just the news we wanted to hear. For the Blackhawks to do this is amazing. It is wonderful to know everyone is helping to make 2010 a year to break down barriers."

Sopel also is marching in honor of Brendan Burke, the son of Toronto Maple Leafs general manager Brian Burke, who was killed in a car accident two months after coming out late last year.

"When Brendan came out, Brian stood by him, and his whole family stood by him, like every family should," said Sopel. "We teach our kids about accepting everybody. Tolerate everybody, to understand where everyone is coming from."

Sports agent Scott Norton summed it up: "Brent is all about giving back and feels everyone deserves an opportunity to see the cup."

Added McDonough: "The Stanley Cup has become the biggest celebrity of all. It has its own personality and charm. We will be proud to participate in the parade. And Brent Sopel is one of the truly great guys. To have the cup part of the parade is just another great part of the celebration."

He is just a good guy, plain and simple. He and his family do an awful lot for the community and families in need as well. Good job Sargeant.

Sopel is a perfect example of a player you know you need to get rid of "as a hockey player" considering our situation, but you don't want to because of what hes like off the ice. He just seems like one of the genuinely good guys, he cant go through an interview without talking about/complimenting his wife and kids, and he does so much for the community.

Great move by Sopel.

It sucks though that he has kids and will probably be traded. That's gotta be hard on his kids.

Wow. All the bruises and shots the Sarge takes show how tough he is, and this shows what a good man he is. Impressive, including the nod to Brendan Burke...

I can't believe you also missed the misspelling.

Lol, normally I wouldn't give a rat's ass, but I feel I have to give some crap to a person with the username bookjones.

Also, awesome move by Sopel. I will say his kids will probably be witnessing some sites they've never seen before.

Seeing as we had threads with dead baby jokes and nothing was ever off limits before I wasn't aware cracking a joke about Detroit being full of gays was hate. I thought a joke was a joke. Apparently the Hawks gaining popularity turned everyone in pussies. I expect that from BHM, but I guess the new IHN is just as week, except we can say "****" here.

It's been a good run guys, but if this is what IHN is going to be like, I'm off.

and I'm not your fucking bro.
