It still boggles my mind that people live and die with every inning it seems of a 162 game regular season that essentially culminates in to one of the largest crap shoots at the end of the year. It's so foreign to me that I really am curious about it, ESPECIALLY considering the team has already won the WS that everyone claimed was so important to their lives. It would take something way worse than this (like what Toronto is which is 2-11, has a -21 differential, Happ is already hurt, they're super dependent on very old players to not age much or even reverse their aging curve) to even care about April baseball.

Just weird to me, that's all. The only regular I'm even remotely concerned about when I watch them play (which isn't every game because why the **** would I watch every game of April baseball) is Ben Zobrist but it's been just two weeks so I can't say much. Because again, two weeks.
Here my reasoning...

I've been a fan for over 40 years and had my share of seeing a cubs team have a very good season and then looking pathetic the next...

This team has the pedigree of being something special , obviously because after how far they got in 2015 they followed it up winning it all in 2016.

I would love to see this young team become somewhat like the braves of the 90s, getting to post season every year, but unlike them winning it all more then once..

Couple things concerned me coming into this season.

1. What type pitching are we going to see from Kyle Hendricks ?
2015 Hendricks or 2016 Hendricks
So far he been more of the 2015 Hendricks

2. Lackey and Anderson... Basically how well will they pitch as far as not getting blown up and giving the offense a chance every game..

3. Bullpen.. Bullpen usually a coin toss, your team either going to have a good one or mediocre one.

4. The young hitters..
Particularly Contreras, Baez, Russell, Bryant, Schwarber, and Almora.
Being that these kids are all starting their 1st to 3rd season, we really have no idea what to fully expect from them because they have little history behind them..
There no doubt they all are very talented with high potentials, just need to see them actually do it on the field consistently..
Right now 5 of 6 are struggling after 14 games hitting under .240.. Only one off to a good start is the Rookie Almora..Go figure

Now as far as the winning and losing goes..
They start out winning 4 of 6 on road and they come home to face Dodgers Pirates and Brewers, you expect them to play over .500 in those 9 games with Dodgers being toughest opponent.
They take 2 of 3 from Dodgers, all good
But
Losing all 3 to pirates who had just lost 4 in row before and now have lost 3 straight after...
Then struggling against Brewers, splitting first 2 and losing so far in the 3rd one..

I understand their gonna lose a bunch of games but you hate seeing them get swept by a terrible teams like Pirates or lose series to Brewers or any division teams...

Someone said its only April, they don't even watch games in April..
Games you don't win in April and May means more games you need to win in August and September..
You don't want to look back and say Damn we let some winnable games and series get away in April/May that we wish they won.
Also, not a good thing to fall under .500 and have to dig out of a hole early and it's a tough dig when players are struggling.

So, thats my story..I'm a die hard, I wanna see this team win but more importantly I wanna see this group be more then just a one year sensation and watch these kids have long successful years with the Cubs because their all likeable and easy to root for.

So yea it bothers me seeing them lose 5 of 7 and if they don't come back here again 6 of 8, especially to teams they should be beating

1st and 2nd no outs and Contreras Almora and Baez can't get it done..

That the frustrating part of this season so far with this offense...
Leaving the games on the bases

I don't come too much anymore because I think the Mod isn't worth it. However, if you want to follow me around, I'll be sure to change that.

Dont want to copy the whole post, but you need to consider the mindset of these starters. They made a concerted effort to hold back work on the starters. They started throwing late because of the long post season, and these dot the corner location pitchers need to throw. They will get that command back, its not here yet.

As far as losing to the brewers, well, they are a team that leads the league in home runs, and some of yesterdays pitches were golfed out so you cant blame location on that one at least.

It does not seem like some of these guys are comfortable throwing to Contrares. Maybe something changed in the way he handles them as the guy.

You're being ridiculous and overly critical. For one, in your years of watching, the cubs have never given you back to back seasons of success like they just have. So your concern of being good then being pathetic is already a fallacy.

Your concern about lackey/Anderson is again overly critical. They're bor guys. They'll have great games, they'll have games where they get absolutely tore up, but they'll mostly be mediocre. Their job is to eat innings and keep the games close enough for the offense to win.

Your concern about the younger guys is fairly valid except for Bryant and schwarber. It's pretty much agreed upon by everyone that these guys are prodigies at the plate. Not to mention basing any performance on a 14 game opening season stretch is outright ridiculous.

The team hasn't really been bad, they just haven't had all phases hit on the same day. It happens, they're still establishing roles for the most part. Just because they're not going to go wire to wire like last season didn't mean they won't be there in the end. They're easily the class of this division and in the upper echelon of the nl. They still are a team that doesn't give up.

They're one game out of first, behind a team that is highly unlikely to keep up their solid play. Relax. This team isn't exactly the same as last year's, it might take some time to gel. Just enjoy the season and hope the team stays healthy.

I will tell you frustrating, Lackey and Bosio alleging that Thames is on PED's.

I knew Lackey had no class before he got here, but Bosio?

He already got the urine test earlier this season. Let's just drop it until proven otherwise. Lackey is just butt hurt that his Sucky cutter went opposite yard. Maybe he needs to stop tossing gofer balls. It is not like they were not teeing off of him all day and he wants to pick on the "suspect"

Sad really

Thames has PED user written all over him. lol

1) We're 10% through the season. Let see how this keeps up.

2) Not everyone who hits the gym hard is on PEDs. He's a stocky guy who has a very muscular build--that's not unusual.

3) He doesn't show any of the signs of classic steroid use, like Barry Bonds' ever-expanding hat size, or persistent acne.

4) He's had a replacement-level MLB career, but did hit 27 HRs in AA. He's also shown power at the ML level in the past.

5) Some guys do finally figure it out at his age. Daniel Murphy, for example.

There will be an adjustment period for the Cubs first to regain the competitiveness, and then to realize every team is now gunning for them more than ever. Why do you thinks it's hard to repeat? Personally, I'd rather them play their best at the end of the season. Most fans are crazy.
