Source: Cubs call up Bryan LaHair - miCubs

In what seems to be a formality, the Cubs will make it official Thursday or Friday and call up likely Pacific Coast League MVP Bryan LaHair when rosters can expand, a reliable source told miCubs. In 128 games for Triple-A Iowa this season, the 28 year-old LaHair has a line of .333/.408/.669/1.077 with 38 doubles, a franchise-record 38 homers and 109 RBI.

The left-handed hitting first baseman has played in the Major Leagues before, hitting .250 with three homers in 45 games for the Seattle Mariners in 2008. LaHair is in his second season with the Cubs organization.

(Check out LaHair's miCubs player page for more info)

UPDATE: LaHair was officially recognized as PCL MVP Wednesday night at Principal Park in Des Moines.

He's also the PCL MVP. What an accomplishment.

Whether you like him or not you can't say he doesn't deserve this.

25 games left...I guess it depends on how many lefties the Cubs face over the last month  Because he'd have to share time with Pena and platoon with Baker

  1. Chicago Blackhawks

30? thought he was 28 and even if the Cubs still got 2-4 years out of him they save money!

Well, 28 is still not a kid. The point is still the same. Did you want 2-4 years out of Hoffpauir or DuBois?

He is 28, but I'd rather go with a vet and I truly believe, he's just an AAAA player.

Either go with Fielder or LaHair. I dont want another year of paying 1B 7 mil + to watch him hit .220 150K, .175 RISP....LaHair could do that and make NOTHING

LaHair deserved to be called up, but lets not act like we are going to learn for certain whether or not LaHair can actually hit at the big league level in 25 games.

good point..Im just curious why people dont think he cant hit Big league pitching. He only had cup of coffee in big leagues and hit .250 with 3 HR

Bryan LaHair Statistics and History - Baseball-Reference.com

13 BB, 40 K...so he has an eye for the ball, but has contact issues.

Small sample size blah blah blah. Let's check the minor league stuff.

Bryan LaHair Minor League Statistics & History - Baseball-Reference.com

So the last two seasons are pretty good. Will strike out about 20% of the time and walk 10%-ish over his career. Got power.

He's basically left-handed Jeff Francoeur, except that he probably sucks at playing the outfield. Minor league stats don't really tell us as much about his outfield D.

Are you the next GM then? God forbid if they give the kid the at bats' to find out and not have to sign someone like Fileder and save tons of money!
