I'm glad thats what it came to. If it was $65 I wouldnt have liked it as much but thats the most I would have paid him.Thankfully they didnt pay him 70 like he supposedly wanted or else I would be upset.

12 mil a year sounds a bit to much imo.

If we could have had him for 50 or 55 that would make me happy. But I dont think it was going to happen.I look at it like this,at least we didnt pay him 70 or else I would be really upset then.

The deal is certainly fair. Personally, I'd have let him play out next year and put together a full year and go against the new cba. He'd probably make less.

5/60 is going to seem like a lot compared to the new cba, BUT, we didn't sign him to david lee like contract, AND it's still cheaper than what was expected earlier.

as a fan i'll admit i'm excited. I love Joahkim.C'mon who else would tell the entire world that the city of cleveland sucks?

On the other hand, this contract makes joahkim a liability. if he doesn't play up to it, he'll be in luol deng territory real soon. All in all, i'm more excited than disappointed.

On a related note, does this effectively nix the melo deal?

No, from Doug's site.

There are a couple of permutations that still make a trade possible. If my calculations are correct Noah + Deng + James Johnson would match Melo + 1 of Afflalo, Lawson, or Balkman + a minimum contract guy. However, the window of things that can be done shrinks by a considerable margin with the extension and Noah taking on the "poison pill provision" tag.

But I think Boozer's injury ends it. Your not gonna have an injured boozer and trade Noah. You'd be starting Thomas/Asik and Gibson.

I dont think so. I look at it like this, now if he gets traded for melo he cant turn down an extension to denver which if the bulls change their mind and want melo, its a good thing for them.

That's a fair market deal offered by the Bulls, and Noah was smart to accept it.

Mediocre big men get paid in this league. A solid big man, like Noah, is worth 12 million. Chandler got, I believe, 6-years 60 million after the 04-05 season. And his numbers weren't as good as Noah. But he did average something like 9 board in 26 min.

Whats the rule about trading after a contract signing? Wouldn't the Bulls have to wait 60 days? Or is it 30?

The poison pill. Forgot about that.

To be honest idk.I think it is one of those two things though. But either way if Melo is still with Denver till Feb and so is Noah and they both teams want to make a trade that wont even matter lol.

I don't think they have to wait, because they just extended him while he was still under contract. That poison pill just screws everything up, though. Figuring $12 million per for five years (to make the math easy) his trade value to other teams will be roughly $10 million now.

So great, this team will more than likely be a luxury tax team next season.....for Joakim Noah. Fantastic.

We won't be in the LT till Rose gets his extension the following year. Even then we could probably avoid it if we don't pick up Korver, Watson adn Brewer's options.
