Well, aside from all his back-and-forth on wanting to be in the NBA, a move for Rudy would further handcuff the Bulls payroll-wise for the coming years, even if Johnson is shipped off to bring him in. Rudy's option for next year is about $1 million more than his salary this year ($1.246 million), which next year makes him $400K more expensive than Johnson. Added onto that, next year's option year is Rudy's last, and his cap hold after the 2011-12 season is $6.541 million. Along with Asik's hold at $2.414 million, Bogans' veteran minimum hold and Rose's max-contract for a 4-year vet hold, we're talking a $24.855 million cap hold after 2011-12, effectively walling off the Bulls from conceivable big-time trades and tasty free agents.

And though Johnson and is $8.436 million hold will be gone for after the 2012-2013 season, that still leaves the Bulls with roughly $32 million in cap holds. Add in Boozer and Deng's (yes, he's still here that long) combined $29.575 million on top of what they have already paid out to Rose and Noah in extensions by that time, and this team still isn't doing anything noteworthy in the off-season.

Man, it sure would be great if the Bulls could get rid of one mega extension due a player and conceivably another mega deal already on the squad in exchange for a top-10 NBA player, that would be just perfect. But hell, what am I talkin'? That would never, ever happen.

Sarcasm- noted. And I refer to you my posts on this page http://www.chicitysports.com/forum/...ng-noah-anthony-vs-no-trade-comparison-6.html and I hope you find interest in them.

I don't think anyone is going to is going to complain about paying a minimum salary to upgrade from JJ to Rudy. And to argue your math, the pick we include either a 2nd or first will break us even or get us ahead in terms of salary.

My point isn't that Rudy makes substantially more than anyone else, but that trading Johnson for him effectively wipes out any chance the Bulls have at making significant off-season acquisitions because trading Johnson for Fernandez only takes an insignificant amount off of an already huge amount of cap holds in exchange for a similarly priced hold that comes a season earlier, perhaps the one year out of the next few where the Bulls have a chance to do something.

What does it limit? We are gonna be fairly close to salary cap next year anyway. With all of our options picked up and Noah's cap hold, we aren't going to have any cap space anyway. Besides 400k or 1 mill is nothing in a teams payroll.
